I donated the other evening (Friday?) while the thread was locked, so don't have my confirmation number now, but there's $10 coming.

One thing I've learned in life is that 90-95% of anything is crap.

Accumulated more credit than % of all BOINC users 98.00%

And that's not including the LHC credits from the last few months. 8-)

WU's are available - so why can't I have some?

We are currently experiencing database performance problems. This is resulting in erratic workunit downloads.

Hornblower was a series of novels. Hornblower kept increasing in rank throughout the series. I do not remember the name of the author.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : Aborted Units...Any solutions... (Message 453761)
Posted 2821 days ago by Profile MJKelleher
In the past ten days or so I have aborted at least 10 units that were failing to compute correctly. As the units were being worked on the completion time was getting longer. Many, many hours of computer time were wasted which of course doesn't help the US NAVY TEAM in overcoming the Air Force team lead in total credits.

Of the three computers I looked at, two are running BOINC version 5.2.13, and the third is 5.4.9. Current version is 5.4.11, with a 5.8.x version on the horizon. Have you considered upgrading to the most current production verion?

I believe there's no way established to combine accounts. Sorry, you'll have to pick one to use and stick with it.

At work, windowless inside office, had my radio on the local National Public Radio station. I'm not sure now whether they broke in on the programming, or picked it up in their normal top of the hour news, but they stayed with the story for quite a while that day, and so did I.

Another issue with this would be the number of teams where the founder is long gone, or where the team founder doesn't care to get notified. If implemented, there should be an opt-in function so the founder could positively request the notification, not have it automatically happen.

This is how quotes are formatted over at Pirates@home. You can get some really weird pyramid looking formations. And the reduced font size is what Einstein@home changed over to not long ago.

I just looked at Einstein's message board, it appears to have the same font size as SETI did before the change - bigger than is here now. QMC@Home has the smaller fonts all over their site, not just on the boards. Too small for my <whimper> ageing eyes.

For XtremLab, I've racked up 999.99 credits.

Oh come on, you can round up and say 1,000 at least! :p

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. 8-)
Good job! I've been slacking off on my xtremlab WU's...

They've only got about a 2% resourse share on my main box plus the laptop when I turn it on, but they do keep inching up there.

I finally got a Seti WU that was optimized to work, under 3 hours!

Nice!

I like the blue quote boxes. However, the smaller default font is making it more difficult for me to read the posts.

15) Message boards : Number crunching : Beta message boards down? (Message 385272)
Posted 2920 days ago by Profile MJKelleher
When I try to read any of the Beta/Astropulse forums all I’m getting today, aside from the title, is the following:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: gettitle() in /disks/setifiler1/home/boincadm/projects/beta/html/inc/forum.inc on line 415

It makes no difference whether I go in through a bookmark, from the link on the front page, or from one of my old postings on my home/Account page. I’ve also tried logging out and in again, but no dice. Suggestions?

Be patient. I've logged the problem on the Q&A message boards on this side of the project, it's something they'll have to fix in Berkeley. Looks like somebody's playing with the code today, the default font is smaller than I've seen before.

On the main message board page I get the error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: show_forum_summary() in /disks/setifiler1/home/boincadm/projects/beta/html/user/forum_index.php on line 32

The Q&A Board lets me get as far as the sections, but then I get the error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: gettitle() in /disks/setifiler1/home/boincadm/projects/beta/html/inc/forum.inc on line 415

17) Message boards : Number crunching : rankingin WU (Message 383436)
Posted 2921 days ago by Profile MJKelleher
There is no such ranking. Because of the differences in size in the work units, it's not really fair to count as equal the work that takes 15 hours to complete vs. the staticky work that finishes in a minute or less. Comparisons and ranking are calculated by cobblestones, which are the units you see in your credit number, and are based on the amount of work your computer actually does.

I wish these message boards showed more info on each post, like what post or user they are writen in reply to, etc.
The top line of your own message says
Message 382622 - Posted 30 Jul 2006 21:38:13 UTC - in response to Message ID 382618.
If you click on the "in response to" message number, it'll take you back to that message where you can see who wrote it, and what message that one is in response to.

19) Message boards : Number crunching : How do i Contact a SETI or BOINC manager for this program not just the forum?? (Message 381742)
Posted 2923 days ago by Profile MJKelleher
The "-108" error you're getting is described in the Wiki as:

The file is "open" and in use by another process, or write access to the file cannot be obtained. Error Codes

There's a gap in the send dates of the work showing for your computer. In that gap, did something change about the system you're on? It looks to me like BOINC don't have write-access to all the folders it needs to operate. Geek@Play's tips are good for getting you going quickly, but this problem needs to be resolved or you'll just see a lot more compute errors again.

20) Message boards : Cafe SETI : Verbal IQ Translation (Message 381739)
Posted 2923 days ago by Profile MJKelleher
It's possible that the OP misquoted the tester, who may have used the phrase "standardised test". The standard (norm) for these would be the performance of the general population on the same test, with the average defined as 100. For his question, we don't know what the average raw score would be on the test, nor the standard deviation, so can't tell how his score would translate to an IQ.
