Revisiting the Onboard Intel GPU Issue
(Message 1996583)
Posted 3 Jun 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: One of the options within BOINC is "suspend while on battery", make sure that isn't ticked.I do have it suspend while on battery. I'm only crunching when plugged into the PSU, whether docked or undocked. I have a desktop I7/7700k with an iGPU. Even though I don't have the 'Use Intel GPU' checked in my global project preferences, I also have the following argument in my cc_config.xml file -- <ignore_intel_dev>N</ignore_intel_dev> ( replace N with the iGPU device #, usually 0). This will require the client to be restarted, and will explicitly ignore the iGPU which you will see at the beginning of the event file. Some might say it's overkill, but better safe than sorry. |

Panic Mode On (116) Server Problems?
(Message 1996506)
Posted 3 Jun 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: Okay, after having 1 d/l sitting for several hours, I cheated and reinstituted my host file. After I recycled the machine and BOINC contacted the server, I immediately got 44 d/ls. But the odd thing is there is no notification from the server on the number of d/ls to be sent. Normally you would get something like this -- 06/02/2019 21:56:39 | SETI@home | Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA GPU 06/02/2019 21:56:41 | SETI@home | Scheduler request completed: got 3 new tasks But this time the first notification that I got was -- 06/02/2019 21:46:26 | | Setting up GUI RPC socket 06/02/2019 21:46:26 | | Checking presence of 466 project files 06/02/2019 21:46:26 | SETI@home | Started download of 04se09aa.27178.10701.10.37.16 06/02/2019 21:46:26 | SETI@home | Started download of 04se09aa.27178.10701.10.37.95 06/02/2019 21:46:26 | SETI@home | Started download of 04se09aa.23308.9576.4.31.103 Is this normal or did I inadvertently discover a bug concerning communications/notifications between the server and my machine? |

Windows 10 - Yea or Nay? (2)
(Message 1995609)
Posted 28 May 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: For those of us who have upgraded to v1903 (build 18362.116), have you noticed that the system requires more CPU usage? Prior to the upgrade I was running BOINC at 80% (4 GPU & 2 CPU) with the total system usage at 89 - 92 %). Immediately after the upgrade using the same BOINC settings, the total system usage went to and stayed at 100%. Everything was running okay until this morning while playing Solitaire and system hung up twice. After the last time I had to reduce the BOINC settings to 70 % ( 2 GPU & 3 CPU) to get the total system usage back to the original total system usage of 89 - 92%. The question -- Is anyone else experiencing the same approx. conditions, and what did you do to resolve it? Now that you've mentioned it I use Outertech's Cacheman 10.10 and there is a discrepancy between it and the task manager also. What system monitor are you using? |

The only thing that really stands out is that all of my SETI tasks went from 12% CPU to bouncing between 12.9 - 14%. Until the upgrade they pegged at 12% and stayed there. |

RE: "-nobs"...
(Message 1985757)
Posted 18 Mar 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: the -nobs argument is not printed in the stderr.txt file. Okay, I'll bite - what is the -nobs argument and if the run time (GPU) & CPU time are roughly equal, why use it? It seems to me that if the above is correct that's an awful lot of CPU cycles that could be used for something else or am I missing something?. |

(Message 1983495)
Posted 5 Mar 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: What are the advantages of running Lunatics 8.20 v 8.22 on GTX1070 under Windoze or is this a AMD app? It's been a long time since I manually updated something on this scale, so if it's a Windoze app all suggestions will be greatly appreciated (where to get the .exe and how to apply). I have both the aimerge.cmd and aimergeg.cmd, don't know which one to use. |

Panic Mode On (115) Server Problems?
(Message 1982844)
Posted 1 Mar 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: I was finally able to force feed my dl's one at a time, so my queue is now sitting with 90 CPU & 116 GPU tasks that I will now attempt to force feed. [edit] Looks like the server is handling 1 dl at a time automatically so I don't have to force feed it or someone kicked the side of the bad server and got it working again. [/edit] [edit2] Looks like I got ahead of myself and ended up to having to force feed 1 @ a time. As soon as I reverted back to more than 1 d/l in the cc_config.xml, everything went to project backoff. So it's back to 1 and force feed. [/edit2]. |

Panic Mode On (115) Server Problems?
(Message 1982816)
Posted 1 Mar 2019 by Cliff Harding Post: S@H boards are a simple microcosm of life on planet earth hosting 7.5 billion people. Of them, BOINC users of distributed computing are about 4.5 million, and of S@H active users 93,000. Those actively complaining maybe 1 dozen at most. Make that a baker's dozen. I've been stuck since Wed and only have approx. 11 hrs. of CPU WUs left. I started Milkyway yesterday when I used up my GPU units, just to keep my GPUs busy. If things don't come back today, I guess just have to start letting Milkyway start crunching CPU units. |
