AndyK pending tool...........
(Message 941987)
Posted 22 Oct 2009 by Leopoldo Post: Hosting I can do, tweaking, not a chance. Not a "tweaking", just a small correction will be needed from time to time (at a time of SETI@home "tasks" webpage changes - for example, recent SETI staff's change was the addition of "Run time" column between the "Status" and "CPU time" columns and I changed the script accordingly)... If You will have no time to: 1) examine the "Tasks" SETI webpage changes and 2) change the main script file "pc_functions_inc.php" accordingly to reflect such changes, then I can look at webpages and suggest a small changes to the script (or even I can suggest new version of the whole file - probably it will be easier to upload the new whole file than to edit the hosted script file and upload?). I did it before and I'm hoping to find differences easily again. It's harder to say than to do it ;) Of course, my such finding and interpreting work doesn't matter without Your help to hosting providing and uploading new files to Your site. I (and I hopes, not only I'm) would appreciate Your hosting/uploading efforts. P.S. I don't like to insert huge changes into working program created by another person, so I can guarantee what my changes will be minimal, such as an additional one or two lines of code or even change of several characters into one line. P.P.S. And, of course, excuse me for my bad English please - I had no live experience on it, just Windows messages, games and several movies... _____________ WBW, Leopoldo |

(another) dumb CUDA question
(Message 933794)
Posted 16 Sep 2009 by Leopoldo Post: I have Hyperthreading enabled and "use 4 cpu's" set on the pref's page ... will I have 2 or 3 SETI's running?? Version 6.6.36 will use website setting 6.1+ "On multiprocessors, use at most" - "100 % of the processors", not the "5.10 and earlier" setting, so you will have on your P4 with hyperthreading and 8400GS 3 tasks running - 2 CPU (multibeam workunits marked as version 6.03 or astropulse workunits) + 1 GPU (multibeam version 6.08). You can check this in the windows task manager: 2 tasks "AK_v8b_win_SSSE3x.exe", each using about of 47% processor and one task "MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_noKill_FPLim2048.exe" nearly of 5%. Edit: the next CUDA problem requires your attention - the VLAR-processing, when the whole windows system becomes too inresponsive - even simple windows redraws very slowly... Now you are using MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_VLARKill_FPLim2048.exe which will kill every VLAR workunit assigned to it (look at executable name ;) ) - this behavior is good for system of fire-and-forget type (no babysitting required). If you wish to lost no any received workunit (and thus your system will no receive WU limit penalty) - then check threads about resheduling/rebranding at this Number crunching forum or at Lunatics corresponding thread. ___________ WBW, Leonid |

Posted 16 Sep 2009 by Leopoldo Post: 9/16/2009 9:37:18 AM SETI@home Message from server: No work available for the applications you have selected. Please check your settings on the web site. Hello, Edward! SET@home project have its own preferences at address http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project Did you set "Use Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) if available" to "yes" before the Unified Installer? After Unified Installer completed its work you launched BOINC. BOINC asked for work from server and received no CUDA-marked workunits (version 6.08) You saw this situation and relaunched BOINC - and, BOINC itself (as having no CUDA-workunits) silently deleted mentioned in app_info files MB_6.08_CUDA_V12_VLARKill_FPLim2048.exe, cudart.dll, cufft.dll and libfftw3f-3-1-1a_upx.dll from project folder. It's old BOINC behaviour, I saw it before... And, because of this files doesn't exists at BOINC servers (Unified Installer is from Lunatics site, you remember?), the attempts of downloading them fails. Moreover, missing files leads to errors like your: <core_client_version>6.6.36</core_client_version> What can you do?

Excuse me, but I don't know this exactly (I have an my own opinion - cudart.dll from Program Files folder is used for GPU speed calculation, because text line like "NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 8800 Ultra (driver version 19038, compute capability 1.0, 768MB, est. 69GFLOPS)" posts before the start of any project) I had never change anything in Program Files\BOINC, only in project folder (because only specified at app_info.xml files from project folder copied into corresponding slot and executes by the BOINC Manager)... |

Posted 28 Jul 2009 by Leopoldo Post: First of all I would like to say - these libraries are useful for Raistmer's optimized CUDA-application (For example, I'm using MB_6.08_mod_CUDA_V11_VLARKill_refined.exe) Unoptimized (stock) CUDA-application uses an old versions of this nVidia libraries... @Fred J. Verster: IMHO, these libraries can't work with unoptimized application - so app hangs How do I get the ' old' cudart & cufft.dll's back? Libraries for unoptimized (stock) CUDA-application can be downloaded from http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/cudart.dll and http://boinc2.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah/download_fanout/cufft.dll Old libraries for optimized application must be extracted from the old archive with this opti app. What do I do with them? @SmartWombat: If you are using optimized CUDA-application then just unarchive libraries and copy into SETI@home project folder (For example, in Vista default path is C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu) |

Posted 20 Jul 2009 by Leopoldo Post: Hi! I thought that it might be their side... No, BOINC uses reply from website "www.google.com" as indicator of internet availability (AFAIK), but I mentioned inavailability of this address several times (at that times country-specific address "www.google.ru" works pretty well as usual - so I think problem exists at DNS of google, not BOINC). BTW, according to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration You can set BOINC to check internet access with another address (for example, Your ISP website) - with tag "<network_test_url>URL</network_test_url>" in "options" section of cc_config.xml |
