Help please.

thanks... ordered my GTX 980 today to replace my SLIed 570s. will go back to SLI when i have saved enough money to get the second 980.

can any post a smile "how to" to have your gpu work on more than one work unit at a time.

thanks

SETI@home uses single precision only.

does any group use duel precision? if so who? thanks
7) Message boards : Number crunching : thinking about upgrading GPU's (Message 1654937)

The other main angle of attack is to consolidate about a squillion tiny transfers into single ones, which will reduce total overheads.

So ideally when a WU starts being processed it is transferred to the GPU which does all the processing, then the result data is transferred back to be returned.
The only other transfers during processing would be back to the CPU to update the elapsed time in the BOINC manager.

That's right. A little lightweight synchronisation, say 30 times a second or less often, is OK. So there's a scaling issue where the GPUs keep getting faster each year compared to CPUs, which at some point you need to say 'make data bigger, do more before telling me about it'. For small v7 tasks, not far off We'll probably need that promised CPU on the boards to run a queue of [less chatty] tasks, Or just figure a way to make the existing Boinc client field a bunch of tasks to one process (via stubs calling services or similar)

i just found this on another thread it seems like there should button on a tool bar that lets you pull mulit GPUs items

you should find a file named app_config.xml in a directory like this ...

C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu

Use NOTEPAD to edit it!

try putting this in it ...

<app_config>

<app>
<name>setiathome_v7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.4</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

<app>
<name>astropulse_v7</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.4</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>

</app_config>

it should kick your GPU to 2 workunits at a time ... and yea, restart BOINC when you make a change.

or am i off base?

[quote]The biggest challenge I have, as developer for the Cuda multibeam side, is finding a way to actually 'fill' the 980 monster (to a lesser extent the smaller variants of Maxwell.)

this might be dumb but why can't there be something like the old Hyperthreading code that was on cpus. it you have the room why not run two or more data runs on a GPU at the same time?

Okay i have been running GTX 570 in SLI for a few years now. I was thinking about moving up to the GTx 980 but one at time (might do SLI again later in the year).

so the Q: is the 980 that much better than the old 570's i have now.

thanks

and

your app_info.xml file does not have a usable version of AstroPulse v7

I have not been able to down load new work help please

I copied this from the news area....all that data...hmmmm time to upgrade again...the wife is going to kill me :) they will collect 170 days worth of data in 24 hours.... HOOLY FRAK...(BSG).... any ideas how we will cut this down to size :)

I asked in another thread if S@H will continue to piggyback on the telescope after the Kepler reobservations are complete but nobody was able to give me an answer. Would you be able to speak on the matter? Is this a one-time thing or is S@H permanently at GBT? Thanks!

We'll just have the 24 hours of total observing time for now (no plans in the near term for more observations beyond that), but we will have collected the same amount of data during these 24 hours as SETI@home collects in 170 days (and which is roughly what the ATA took 2000 days to collect). So that's *plenty* for the time being!

Great news!!!!! so Seti will be pulling 60 TB a day? if so how many days? Can we get a count down clock to when we "might" be getting the data to crunch.... i will clear my all other projects out so i can put my full power to this. and again great work guys.
13) Message boards : Number crunching : Need some help picking a Optimized app (Message 1090182)
Posted 25 Mar 2011 by Profile cliff west
I need some help please. I have been gone or at least not active posting. I had to rebuild my hard drive and did some upgrade to software and hard ware. What I would like/need is an easy Optimized APP, something a dummy can do quickly. I ran CPU-Z and I have MX, SSE (1,2,3s), Em64T, and vtx. I also have twin GTX 570’s. What would work best for me? Any ideas and links would be great.

thanks

JUST an FYI. i was checking to see why my RAC went down, it looks like the credit granted went from 114 to 31 per cuda. i realy could careless about that. i would be happy with one to one( like the old days).

Ran out of 6.08s, went to gpu grid, but my gpu is a 8800 gts (320) and can't run ther software. Are there any other projects i can run on my gpu?

Aqua, yoyo (but need to check GPU capabilities). Currently MW has CUDA app too, but compute capability 1.3 (full double precision support) required.

i'm computer dumb so what is 1.3 (full double precision support)
