On the account page it says: Cross-project statistics BOINC Statistics for the WORLD! doesn't provide this functionality at the moment and should therefore be removed. |

AP vs MB, credits and all that jazz........
(Message 901638)
Posted 1454 days ago by MontagsMeeting
I don't see a problem with cuda even if it is overclaiming credit. The initial idea of this thread was to promote MB by giving more credit to it (if i understood right) and this problem is because of higher RAC of opt AP and therefore AP is more attractive. Another problem could be the scheduler, that seems to prefer sending AP over MB. I don't exactly know, as i switched to AP in the early days where nobody liked AP. |

LOL, like me, couldn't remember doing the stock apps, at least i've never done AP stock. But the stock apps are the base for calculating credit and modification to credit could/should only be done to equalize credits(RAC) between stock apps. Any difference in credits(RAC) between opt apps is not relevant as credit is applied to work done and not how fast it is done. And how much work is done with one WU is defined by stock apps on a defined system. |

so the stock AP RAC is higher than stock MB RAC on the same PC? in this case MB credit has to be increased or AP lowered |

Just keep in mind that opti should be kept out of the equation.......... But exactly the opt apps are "the problem", you get less credit for MB than for AP only because of opt apps and that's the reason why AP is so popular. I don't exactly know, but believe that you get equal credit with stock apps for MB and AP. So the only reason for your initial request are the opt apps that give unequal credit and therefore MB needs some boost. I suggest to integrate MB and AP apps to solve "the problem" |

Credit is based on the stock apps and is, at least tried, to be the same over all projects. To change credits for promotion reasons would break the complete system. The only way to equalize the credit between AP and MB would be to more optimize the AP stock app, which would mean to reduce the credit boost from the optimized AP app as it doesn't do the work that much faster as the stock app anymore. |

Firefox in its downloadable state needs add-ons to become usable, the first installed add-on makes any security of firefox - if it exists - useless, as there's no control over the security of add-ons namely not even signing |

This website should be of some help. I suggest not to use commercial sites that live from advertising. I own an advertising agency and it works that way: if you advertise at us we'll promote your product. Use some independant sites like

Vista SP2 RTM: no longer remote boinc
(Message 898317)
Posted 1462 days ago by MontagsMeeting
OK i installed a new vista business x64 as a domain client today, sadly i forgot to test remote BOINC before i installed ESET smart security, so my first try to connect to BOINC from another host ended at the ESET firewall. I disabled the firewall and everything runs as expected. I set up a firewall rule and it still works - in both directions. I believe one of the betas in conjunction with the rtm messed up your system |

i think there's no XP involved - all vista and BOINC teached me the pain of rights, try to run it on a vista domain-client with restricted user rights and BOINC-devs better keep away from you ;) |

The RTM version is the officially version I just installed it and the installation process was smoothly with a little hickup where it presented me the installer of hhd hexeditor again. But after installing hhd again everything works fine including BOINC and remote BOINC. |

I missed that Is it a fresh install of vista + sp2 or is it the system that was running the betas of sp2? If it's your beta testing system i suggest to do a clean install of vista + sp2 to eliminate the possibility of interference with any beta junk i'm installing sp2 atm, so you can wait until it's done, but be patient, it's my slowest notebook ;) |

I suggest using ESET Smart Security. I use ESET for many years without problems and of course without virus. Of course the best AV doesn't free one from using brain. There's no 100% solution out there even all together wouldn't be 100%. AV is always a step behind as it only can do when the virus already exists. Don't click "free", "earn ####$", "get a larger, thicker xxx", "crack" and a few others!!! This should prevent you from ~99% of malware. Here's a good article why to use ESET Smart Security |

If boinc is not listed in your firewall then boincs ports are closed. You have to add boinc as allowed application in your firewall. If boinc is already listed, as you state ports are open, you should check the settings what is allowed |

My core i7 running Seti with a ATI 4850 running MilkyWay is drawing 286 Watt, the core i7 with idle ATI 226 Watt. I have 2 of them, both equipped with 2 SSDs and a 550W PSU This gives about 12,000 credit per kWh if everything runs perfectly what they don't do most of the time :´( With actual RAC the better one gives about 9,000 credit per kWh at a cost of 43€/month (~58$) each I used this meter (german ebay) |

OK Seti runs fine again but with 6.6.28 Milkyway stops after the initial 2 tasks - had this when 6.6.28 was a development version reinstall 6.6.20 gives some errormessage - had this already when overcoming another issue i'm now back/forward to 6.6.23 and it works - i suspect until my Seti WUs are done, then have to do the holy crap again I should ask my crystal ball if there's any rational reason to do BOINC any further as i can hardly imagine any :( |
