Triple celebration at BOINC.BE

Bring on the crates of champagne. Boinc.be has reasons to celebrate.

- The team has reached the historic milestone of 100 million credits.
- Giorgio is now the number 1 cruncher in Belgium.
- We have risen to position 28 in the world ranking.

Great achievement, everybody. Keep filling those glasses.

3) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : RPM (Message 95326)
Posted 5 Apr 2005 by Profile [BAT]Krikke
Post:
Why would you want an RPM, the boinc client is a simple executable so there is no need for a package to be installed ?
Put the executable in a directory and make it start from the /etc/rc5.d (or whatever default runlevel you are in).

If you need help on how to do it, just let me know on

4) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Performance downloaded vs. compiled client? (Message 95324)
Posted 5 Apr 2005 by Profile [BAT]Krikke
Post:
It is definitely the best to either get a compiled Linux client on

http://www.pperry.f2s.com/downloads.htm or

http://boinc.us.tt/

The CPU benchmarks are much higher on the optimized client then on the original since the original has less optimization code (to gain compatibility) than the optimized version.
You (and everyone else that crunches the same WU as you) will gain much more credit with the optimized client so it is definitely worth it.

5) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Proxy: Automatic configuration script (Message 95309)

Post:
Greetings all,

I was wondering, since my provider uses an automatic configuration script if I can use BOINC ?

I have no idea where I can put this configuration script (except in IE or Mozilla).
I cannot put in the HTTP proxy, I've tried an that doesn't work.

Thanks in advance

7) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Why has the linux client gotten so slow (Message 4593)
Posted 5 Jul 2004 by Profile [BAT]Krikke
Post:
I'm seeing the same thing here, I have 2 computers running at work and one at home. During BOINC test my windows box at work was nr 1 (since it's a P4 2.8), second was my Linux box (dual P III 500) and last was my home computer which is only on a few hours a day while both others are on 24/7.

Since the outage my home computer processed more units than my Linux box with less than 1/8 of the uptime. Something in the Linux client is slowing it down, maybe some debug code or did someone buy Micro$oft stocks :))

8) Questions and Answers : Unix/Linux : Proxy requiring username and password (Message 4584)
Posted 5 Jul 2004 by Profile [BAT]Krikke
Post:
On a Linux box (at work) I have to logon to the internet through a proxy that requires user name and password.
After having put these in the client_state.xml file I still cannot get through since when starting the boinc client it always adds a / to the URL.

I can traceroute setiboinc.berkeley.edu but I cannot traceroute setiboinc.berkeley.edu/ or even http://setiboinc.berkeley.edu and I have no idea what I can do about that.

Anybody who has more experience with Linux, please heeeelp out this n00b :-)
