What fusion produces are 14 MeV neutrons. Having worked with neutrons in my youth, I know they are bad beasts. They can destroy any material in a short time. So the "first wall" in a fusion reactor shall have to be substituted in a short time. But of course it will be radioactive, so the substitution shall have to be made by robots, not by human beings. So engineering problems in a fusion reactors will be huge, even when plasma physics problems are solved. Good luck.

That's why the Sun doesn't have "walls"? :)

Instead of trying to contain fusion using magnetic walls, could we use gravity instead?

Technically Incorrect: Cosmologist Fergus Simpson believes that the most intelligent of aliens out there will likely weight 650 pounds. Yes, little green people could be very, very big.
[/color] told Newsweek: "Polar bears are large but do not write great literature and build radio towers and a lot of that is probably because they are walking around on all fours."

5) Questions and Answers : GPU applications : Support for AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (Message 1656457)

Greetings, one of my GPU's AMD Radeon R9 200 Series ( Tahiti core ( power color brand )) does not seem to be processing any workunits for any project. Is this particular unit currently supported? Three other AMD/ATI GPU's are processing work units normally..

There was no work-unit from Astropulses in the past few months.
I read that they are returning soon....

BTW, I am also a Radeon user: R9 285!

Here are a few things that help my AMD machines crunch just a tiny bit more. None of this will give you a breakthrough jump in performance but every little bit helps. I have no idea if any of this will effect Intel and don't really care since they don't need any help:) The CPU's I use to test these tweaks are an FX-8370, Phenom II X4 965, and Phenom II X6 1055T

I am overclocking AMD FX-6300@4Ghz with Radeon R9 285! :)

I am a am testing Build 10036 of Windows. I notice that the new method for choosing screen savers in this build does not allow one to chose an external screen saver. It this goes goes through, Windows 10 will kill elective screen savers as far as I know. There may be ways to save but Ill have to experiment on my own system.
Renee

Win 10 is still a technical preview, so don't conclude so soon.
OTOH, no harm to complain this limitation against Micro$oft!

As for GPU computing,... you must have a user logged into the server at all times to allow GPU crunching. If your server reboots for any reason and remains at the login screen, you will not be crunching on the GPU.

Thanks! I guess I should stay with BOINC 5.x then. :)

Will future versions of BOINC solve these problems in Win Servers?

As you can see on your SETI@home preferences there are Settings:

Use ATI GPU
Use NVIDIA GPU
Use Intel GPU

So not only BOINC detects the 3 types of GPUs (provided the 'right' driver is used and BOINC is Not installed in service mode)
but SETI@home have apps for them:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/apps.php

Lunatics apps can't run unless BOINC starts them.
And BOINC will not start GPU apps until it can see the OpenCL or CUDA driver.

Someone gave me another answer:
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=76849&postid=1648498#1648498

I am indeed running it as a daemon....

There's your problem.
From GPU_computing:
"Warning: On Windows do not install BOINC in Protected Access Execution (PAE) mode aka service mode (6.4.5 - 7.0.28) or Service Install mode (7.0.64 and above). If you do, BOINC will not be able to detect or use your GPU."
Please reinstall BOINC, and do NOT choose Service Install mode.

OK... let me re-install...

Why isn't the log reminding us the same thing? :)

It seems that BOINC only cares about Nvidia CUDA....

Any other workarounds?

Please post your Boinc startup from the Event log.

It appears that the root partition filled on marvin (rapidly) while I was AFK, for no reason that I am aware of, which caused it to crash. Nobody is at the colocation facility right now, so the astropulse DB is down. I'll try to get remote accesses for a reboot, but chances are that marvin is down until monday morning.

Are they Seagate hard disks? You might want to consider Toshiba? :)

Sorry, I found it. It's not the upper right corner.

As Jesus said in the Bible, you need to be slapped at the other side of your face.

The "Edit My Profile" is about an inch below the upper left corner! :)

Sorry again!
