Is there any way to change the Communication Deferred times on Boinc? For some projects with limited work, such as LHC, extended deferral times can easily cause you to miss work releases.

I don't want to be pinging the server every 10 minutes but, I also don't want to get an automatic 2+ day communcation deferral.

Thank you,

Try this ;-)

I have an old Linux machine in my closet I was coinsidering bringing out of hibernation.

It'sa PII MMX 200Mhx, the kick is that it only has 96 megs of ram.

Will this work?

Change to Seti client -> http://www.guntec.de/Crunch3r/setix86.html

Download : Pentium1/2 MMX and compatible

Opteron 144, FSB 200 MHz, HTT 1000 MHz, 1800 MHz core speed, SSE2&3, socket 939
512 MB DDR-400 memory non-ECC, not dual channel yet (still need the other ram in other pc) Would dual channel memory be a huge improvement?

AMD64s I'm talking about all have SSE2 and DDR-400 nonECC as well

Happy new year!

Dan

Not sure about AMD & dual channel memory.
My P4A 2.4GHz+865G with dual channel crunch faster than singal channel ave~15%.

Use A64Tweaker to check & optimize.

Happy crunch.

Imho that extra 512kB wont process wu's much faster, or i'm mistaken?

I know that the difference between the older AMD64 single-cores (512KB) and the newer ones (1MB) is considerable, which is why I went with a 3700 w/1MB instead of a 3800 w/ 512KB; non-overclocked, the 3700 was already faster on SETI. I think it makes _more_ difference when running the "stock" application, because it comes closer to fitting everything in cache. Crunch3r's app uses more memory for the trig tables, so the on-chip cache is probably less important with it.

I agree. All of my teammates use the same AMD64 3000+, 512kb cache, even on the same mobo. I recently bought an Opteron 144, same speed but double cache.
And it crunches a little bit slower (~5 min.) with same core speed of
1.8 GHz. Just wondering why...

Dan

Check Opteron 144
Instruction set => 1. SSE2 or SSE3 ? ( AMD64 3000+ SSE2 & SSE3 )
Memory => DDR ? 266? 333? 400? (My 244 Support DDR-333 Reg But can use DDR-400)

My Opteron 244 limit @ DDR-333 Reg DIMM & SSE2.

Posted 3173 days ago by Profile ++ MTOS.PDN ++
I used internal proxy for web cache. IE and BOINC 5.2.13 set use proxy same number and port.
No problems with IE. But BOINC 5.2.13 can't connect to internet.

Now I back to BOINC 4.45 again.

very Thanks.

Help me please!!

I changed from boinc 4.45 to boinc 5.2.13 last hour.
I set my internal LAN proxy use port 8080 ( boinc 4.45 work fine.)
But boinc 5.2.13 has some error.

In SETI Server.
http://setiweb.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_status.html

Problems is very large files in directory (Penguin).

One process needs processor times to complete it task.
The subsystem(OS) too busy to responds one process is many million files in direstory .

Admin added more task that is more threads.
More difference threads is more cpu time slice.
Each time slice is a bit processor lost performance.

Penguin run 440 MHz dual cpu.
But handle 8 file_deleter, 2 transitioner, 4 sah_validate, 4 sah_assimilator !!!

??? Where is kryten ???

If possible please reduce to 2 file_deleter, 2 transitioner, 2 sah_validate, 2 sah_assimilator.
