2) Questions and Answers : Macintosh : PROBLEMS WITH MAC 5.8.3 (Message 510768)

I had just updated my Mac SETI to the latest I could find, which was 5.8.3 when my 2month old Intel Mac Book had hardware problems and needed a week's stay at Apple for a LOT of repairs. I received it back on Friday and got it going - and began having problems with SETI but the program semed to have settled down and was running and reporting, and I became busy and didn't have time to check the computer until late night, whereupon I found that the SETI program was not running, ALL (a multi-day supply) work units were shown as completed in error with obviously zero credit being given for any of the last 8+ hours of work.

So, I dumped the filed from my Applications and down-graded my installation back to the "still suggested" 5.4.9. But, once installed - it sen all the corrupted WU in (for zero credit s surmised) and now, BOINC/SETI won't allow any further downloads of any work units because IT says that I've "had my fill" and postponed my receiving any for another 24 hours, leaving me with NOTHIN - an empty computer with NO work units.

Is there ANY way of getting the Program to realize/recognize that everything I just reported in were error units of zero credit and to issue me some additional work units?

Thanks,

Norm

I cannot seem to get BOINC/SETI to work with my new Mac Pro with more than 2 processors. The "Main" computer page recognizes that the computer has 4 processors, and after I dumped everything and reloaded from scratch, it originally recognized it locally as well, but then went on to "Run CPU Benchmarks" again, and decided I only have 2 processors, and thus is only running 2 work units (just as my prior Mac Book Pro).

Check your General preferences, specifically the setting “On multiple processors, use at most” … if that says 2, there’s your answer. If not, I don’t know what to suggest.

DOH! Thank you SO much, Odysseus. That was all it took. I greatly appreciate it!

I WOULD have hoped that the Mac Pro, with quad processors, would give somewhat better results than the laptop!

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks,
