AMD APU opencl problem
(Message 1963981)
Posted 8 Nov 2018 by AllenIN Post: Yes, I have an out dated AMD APU and for some reason it stopped being recognized by Boinc. I've been running it for many years with no problems until I tried to add an additional compatible internal graphics card. For some reason this combination didn't work and after removing it, the opencl did not work anymore. The log file gives me this error numerous times. App version needs OpenCL but GPU doesn't support it I'm hoping that someone has a clue as to what is wrong. I have Windows 7 Ultimate and the latest Boinc. Also I have the newest version of Catalyst for this APU. Thanks..... Allen Edit: I just found this file and it might be of some help. It is the stderr.txt file. 20:40:57 (6388): Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode 20:40:57 (6388): Can't open init data file - running in standalone mode Not using mb_cmdline.txt-file, using commandline options. Windows 10 - Yea or Nay?
(Message 1944646)
Posted 16 Jul 2018 by AllenIN Post: "My present AV package (I renewed Kaspersky earlier this year, their AV is the most unobtrusive I've found) just told me my Firefox is hopelessly outdated. I'm still at version 58, because I hate the look of the versions thereafter and can't stand the extensions. Guess what? There are still updates for the add-ons (even though they're called extensions, they aren't). " Ageless, Version 58?? Heck, I'm on version 43 on my favorite machine since it's the last to support my favorite Appearance add-on. Avast doesn't like it either! Keep up the good work and don't give in. I don't run anything by Win7 and will never go to 10. At that point I expect to switch to Linux of one sort or another. Allen |

Replica database offline...
(Message 1831457)
Posted 19 Nov 2016 by AllenIN Post: The replica database will be offline until we can restore it from the primary database on tuesday (at the earlies). This will result in slowness of the web site and the scheduler. It's been over a month since you wrote this....I'm hoping for one heck of a restoration!! |

Never thought of it that way before. Makes sense. Guess I've got a plan for Saturday, where I can keep an eye on it. [/img] |

Posted 17 Aug 2016 by AllenIN Post: I let it set there for about 15 minutes and it never did download anything. Figuring that I had done something wrong, I rebooted and tried it again, still nothing. I guess they don't really want to update my machine and are just teasing me....ha! Thanks for the info. I didn't leave it running overnight or even for hours, so perhaps it may have downloaded sorta in the blind if I had let it. Might try that, but I really hate to leave anything unattended with MS on the other end. |

How does Boinc decide which WU it will run next?
(Message 1809784)
Posted 17 Aug 2016 by AllenIN Post: Thank you all for trying to get my thick head to understand the system. I guess what I really need to do, now that I have your understanding of the system, is to observe some of the dates and movement of WU's through my systems. Perhaps I have it set to store too many units, but this is not all my fault as I have been stuck with nothing to run on more than one occasion when I had my settings for far fewer wu's. I will say that I am running some wu's for October currently, while I have wu's due in a week or so just setting there. To me, that seems odd, but as I said, I'll have to do a little studying to see what is really going down. Thanks again for your kind help.....all of you. Allen |

Posted 15 Aug 2016 by AllenIN Post: Unless there's a danger of a missed deadline, it runs them in the order they were received from the server. First In, First Out. Simple as that. Well in my case, I am only running Seti and I have no fancy settings, but it is not unusual for me to be running for instance, 3 cpu wu's that are due a month away and have some due in two weeks just setting there. I thought that perhaps Bonic was choosing to run wu's that had already been completed by wingmen and would choose to run them before running first in first out. |

If that is the case, and I'm sure it is since you are the one saying so, why does it sometimes stop an in progress WU and run another one that it has just received? |

Posted 11 Aug 2016 by AllenIN Post: Just curious, I'm a bit anal I guess, but does anyone know why Boinc runs WU's in the order that it runs them? You would think that it would run them by due dates, but that is clearly not what it does. Thanks |

Posted 4 Aug 2016 by AllenIN Post: And I'm presuming that it will take an act of God for a non-volume licensed, or should I say a non-enterprise licensed individual to acquire such a version, if it's even possible at all? Doesn't leave us end users with many good options after 2020 then, sadly, when are going to get XP'ed. Unless we suck it up and move to 8, to buy a couple more years. I guess the saying is accurate, Resistance is Futile, you will be Assimilated... Their is always Linux. |

I'm tired of dancing through MS's hoops and I don't like supporting them anyway. I wonder what the percentages are here at Seti though. Those that took the plunge and those who did not. |
