Hi, i've noticed on one of my computers that no CPU tasks are available. Not sure if this is accurate as it seems some of my other rigs are getting them.

I'm still here. FWIW I can't believe how far the technology has progressed.
For me it all started on a 486 system and now I have a high performance CPU and 2 video cards that do the same work in seconds.

When I started my user group, we had about 20 active users that would do the same work I now do on one computer.

I've updated one of my crunchers running a GT440 and it seems to have improved the RAC by at least 1000 or more.

I'd really consider getting a solid state drive to boot from. That alone will knock your socks off. Time to load programs and system bootups will be dramatically reduced. As for SSD recommendations I personally use an Intel 510 drive attached to a sata3 capable system board.

I wouldn't bother with the sound card, most onboard sound systems have great fidelity, and adequate software support.

FWIW, My system has two ASUS 560Ti cards and averages 26,000 credits and climbing and consumes at least 350 watts, it's RAC ranking is around 129th in the world tough.

If your using the optimized lunatics app, I had to go back a revision. I tried running v0.38 of the unified installer, but it'd cause my system to crash.

So I went back to v0.37 and my system is now stable again.

Hi, long time user here, finally took the plunge and bought a CUDA ready vid card, it does one unit in 10mins! WOW to say the least.

I've installed the latest optimized app and forgot what SSE setting I should use?
I have an Intel Q6600, is the plain Intel SSE3 the best version or one of the others?

Please let me know which would do the most work?

Thank you

Hi, I like your new servers ;) Wink Wink nudge nudge etc.

From first hand experiences, make sure you get the latest hardware firmware installed ASAP... Disk drives, disk drive backplane, system bios, array controller, power control and remote access etc.

As far as racking these, there is a new rack standard with square mounting holes. These allow almost tool-less server installations etc.

Mr. Whale, to gain stability on the q6600, I had to install the newest version of Boinc along with AK_v8_win_SSSE3x, since then my averages have started to show increased performance.

Thank you for your efforts.

Hi, after installing this AK_v8_win_SSSE3x on my quad q6600, my computing averages have decreased. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Looking at 2 results with similar Angle Range(AR) from before and after switching.... I see that your CPU time has gone from ~6800 to ~3800.

Yes your CPU times have decreased, as expected by ~44% at this AR...

So where is the problem?

Regards,
JDWhale

AMD Delivers First Stream Processor. Interesting news, but I wonder if Seti@home will be written to take advantage of this platform? Two caveats, list price is $2000.00 and it consumes 1500 watts of electricity.

Thanks for the replies, I've looked through every setting and have not found any connection attempts limit settings. The only one that might work is the "Don't use network between certain time periods"

My message logs show that Boinc is very network busy, I'm glad I have a permanent network connection, otherwise this software would be difficult to use.

Hi, looking through my messages log, I notice that BOINC is very chatty with the host server, is there a setting that I can use to limit how many times per hour Boinc will attempt to connect?

Hi, what I have to say about this maybe a repeat to some but here goes anyways.

This past weekend, I found at least three issues with my system. The first one was minor but stability in my system was increased immensely, my memory was mismatched, the ras cas etc, was not the same for both pieces of memory. This is very important on a dual channel memory system, so don’t cheap out on the memory.

The second issue, the system BIOS was old and required to be updated, not sure if this helped any.

Finally the third and biggest issue the system board has a feature called cool and quiet, it’ll slow the CPU fan in an attempt to keep the system noise at a minimum. Switch it off for maximum performance, the cooler the CPU the better your results.

Correcting these issues has resulted in a significant improvement in my results, from a 400 average to over 600 credits per day.

YMMV but seeing is believing.

Wow, these outages are more common than one would think. With todays faster CPU's the workunits don't arrive fast enough to satisfy them. Hmm, a new years resolution, a better queuing system should be devised.

Fustrating to say the least.
