1) Questions and Answers : Wish list : New software creates "ghost" machine entries that can't be combined. (Message 569722)

I'd call this a bug, since the hardware platform on one of my machines has not changed, but the "CPU Type" description has (with all those 3-letter codes). As a result, I have two entries for the box, but attempts to merge it don't give me any similar entry.

Can there be a "tweak" done so that I can keep all the stats for a single hardware box in the same historical record? Seems logical to me, but what do I know!

Ref: this thread for specific machine descriptions.

It's not a corrupt entry, but a change in CPU description as detected by newer versions of BOINC. Because of this difference, two hosts cannot be merged.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH! I HATE that.

Any chance the powers-that-be might be able to allow you to link those machines? The hardware hasn't changed, only BOINC has. Certainly you'd want to keep the stats together for the same machine.

I've got two instances of the same system.
This new entry has a very different "CPU Type":
GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU family 1266MHz [Family 6 Model 11 Stepping 1][fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse]

than the other prior instance of this server:
GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU family 1266MHz

What are all those 3 letter combos? Garbage in the entry? Or codes?
Whatever, the other instance of this machine does not have them. Could they be preventing them from showing up in the "merge host" list? I get no computers listed when I try to merge.

A second anomaly between these records is that there has been a kernel upgrade in the interim and the versions don't match.
New Entry: Linux 2.6.9-55.ELsmp
Old Entry: Linux 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp

Can anyone clue me in on how to get these two to match up correctly, (and/or) to achieve my goal of merging these machines?

Just a thumbs up Matt. And look at it this way. Downtime like this allows this community to distill out the whiners, and the rest of us to blow the dust out of our power supplies.

As said, we'll be here when you're ready.

(It would be justice to find E.T. about 36 hours after the last troll uploads their last work unit.)

Thanks. I think I have a plan now.
I wonder how many "ghost" teams are out there, with founders and no members?
And more importantly, do they have intelligent life?

Due to some initial confusion on how to create a team, our group ended up with two teams -- "Mecantina" and "MEC Seti" The latter is a "place holder" where everyone joined, but to match the other projects, I want the "Mecantina" name intact.

"Mecantina" had one inactive member until I joined it today. It's founder is listed as a member on "MEC Seti"
I've initiated administrator transfer today after joining "Mecantina". It now looks like this:

Team MECantina | Quit team
founder of	MEC Seti | Change team founder

I want to move all members to MECantina, then kill MEC Seti.

Questions:
1.) How can I delete an existing team that has no active members?
2.) Does moving from one team to another cause any loss of points on any team or member?

Regards,
