Hi Xolo,

set the above value to something like 50% or more. That should fix your problem.

Has anybody already checked Clarence's local prefs?

Clarence, do you have a line stating "Reading preferences override file" in your messages list? If so, open your BOINC Manager, click "Advanced View" if you're in simple view mode -> menu "Advanced" -> "Preferences..." Now either click "clear" button to revert to your web based preferences or check and adjust those settings as needed. Seems to me like your connection interval is set to "0" (which means only one unit to process at a time...)

On german? ok...

besser so?!? (ebenfalls LOL... ;-))

Hi Bram,

could you copy the first 30 or so lines from your BOINC messages tab and paste them here, so we can see what is going on when BOINC starts? I suspect something like too tight memory/disk usage restrictions to be the culprit...

My guess is that there are still problems for Mac users to get work, as stated on the Seti@Home frontpage:

July 22, 2008
Apple/Mac computers have been unable to get new workunits since yesterday - we're working on this bug.

The Seti crew is probably still working on it. See also the Technical News for more informations and for any progress on this.

Any ideas will be most welcome.

Well, here are my 3 best ideas.

1. Exclude your BOINC folder form online virus scanning (if not already done)
2. What is your time for "Write to disk at most every ___ seconds"? Can be found in your preferences (local, if there is a "Reading preference override file" line is in your messages list, otherwise your web based prefs)? Default value is 60 (seconds)
3. What happens if you suspend BOINC (Advanced View -> Activity -> check "suspend", but don't forget to change this back afterwards...)? Is it working normal again, i.e. can you switch between tabs in a normal speed?

You should also check your local preferences accordingly (Advanced view -> menu "Advanced" -> "Preferences..."), or click "Clear" on that page there to return to your Web based prefs.

IIRC, I had a similar problem with BOINC V6.x (don't know anymore which subversion from the 6 branch it was)... creeping CPU times. I reverted to BOINC 5.10.45 and everything went to normality. Might be worth a try. But keep in mind that installing BOINC 5.x on a Vista system needs some special instructions like not installing it in the program files folder or even disabling UAC (that's what I've done).

Or, find a tool that keeps track wich programm has consumed how much CPU time, like Iarson Taskinfo or similar.

Seems like BOINC is not able to clean up the working slot directory, so each unit uses an old result/state file, "restarts" at 99.78%, take only some seconds to completion, and claims too much credit (AFAIK credits are managed by BOINC, not the science app). Something like wrong/insufficious access/directory rights maybe?

Have you already tried to turn off the BOINC screen saver (or switch the screen saver to something else, like "blank screen")? If the problem then disappears, you may need to update your graphic card and/or DirectX drivers... Otherwise my next best guess is an overheating issue too...

AFAICS it's not a problem of the ports, its the old, well known "Couldn't get input files" Seti_527.jpg problem... Try this: Open Boinc manager -> advanced view -> menu "Advanced" -> preferences -> "Network usage" tab and click to check "skip image file verification". Check other settings according to your preferred usage. Click ok button at the bottom to save your changes.

Then go to projects tab, hilight Seti@home and click "Update" on the left hand buttons. Should work now.

Hi Guys. For the past several days, I have experienced high temp problems. I've been crunching QMC as team's POTM & have found that QMC increase heat & power usage. Rather than abort, set web based prefs to 2 cores maximum on QMC & set other 2 cores to crunching Seti with 2 cores max.

However, for the past several hours, both projects have been switching over every 60 min & crunching using all 4 cores.

Computer based prefs have been cleared to allow web based prefs to take precedence. However, it's not working.

How do I get both projects to only use 2 cores?

Hmmm... okay, what does BOINC say in your messages tab for the following lines:

- General prefs: from ________(<-fill in Project) (last modified dd-mmm-yyyy hh:mm:ss)
- Host location: _____ (either work, school, home or none)
- General prefs: using separate prefs for _____ (or similar)
- Reading preferences override file (does this line exist?)

Or, could you copy the first 30 or so lines from your messages tab and paste them here?

Hi Calimero,

Andy

This one only is when the download was still in the Transfer tab, timing down for a retry. Else it won't. I don't have it.

That's a good one :-) Didn't think of tasks still in transfer!

That's why I have suggestd (in the original thread) to 1) set Seti to NNT and 2) to abort any pending transfer, especially of Seti527.jpg... ;-)

Anyway, maybe I missed something, or the steps I've suggested weren't done in the right order...
