BOINC DEV or A SETI problem.
(Message 1369652)
Posted 1 day ago by Fred E.
I have one rig with an Intel 970 running 12 cpu's with a GTX 480 GPU.(currently dead, awaiting a new one). It normally downloads WU's so it has 100-150 ready to run. I have my preferences set for a 10-day supply. My second rig has an AMD 4-core cpu with a GTX 570 GPU. The downloaded WU's ready to run reached over 3000 at one point. Now I am getting errors from WU's failing to start by deadline. What would cause this?Don't know why they are both over the project's task limits. Suggest you lower the cache setting and go on No New Tasks (NNT), especially for the one with over 2k tasks. It is still receiving work, includiong some after your post. BOINC will report completions promptly on NNT while you work down the task count. Suggest you open a thread to discuss as this is not the right place for a discussion. I know people that would love to know how this happened! |

Questions about Boinc tasks
(Message 1369388)
Posted 1 day ago by Fred E.
Yes they are on 1 router , the program couldn't find them , and I don't know how to set that up. Set the computer that you want to use to monitor the others as "local host" in the IP address field on the computers tab. Then enter the ip address of the others to add them. The setup instructions are here. It will take a while to work through the menus and customize it the way you want it. I use BOINCTasks for a single computer and rarely look at BOINC Mgr. I just check it to confirm menu language when posting. BOINC still runs and does the work, but BT is a better gui. |

New PC for seti , need settings info

earlier in the thread, Floyd said: I have that , I was talking about maybe this (AP6_win_x86_SSE_CPU_r1797) and if that one is for AMD , the one for GPU,... LOL I assume the installer got you set up for Astropulse on CPU, but haven't seen anything said about the GPU app for AP. It is a manual addition to your app_info.xml file. If you want to add it, the app_info section is in an aistub file in the download package for copy/paste. The download is at: AP v6 OpenCL NVIDIA for Windows |

Okay, panickers, what say you now? Not convinced. They had real problems when (a) no AP was available, and (b) the MB work was mostly shorties. They are keeping up now with a better ratio of long/short MB tasks and the AP tasks. For example, I've received 364 tasks in the last 24 hours per BOINCTasks (staying at limits for the period). That number was ranging from 700 to 800 when we got almost all shorties, no AP, and the ready to send was depleted. Maybe there was a fix, but I'll wait and see. |

AFAIK Raistmer is handing out an .aistub with his apps as well - makes life far easier - um somebody might want to crosscheck that holds true for AP NV r1761 as well... Yes the download zip file includes the aistub file, and that made it easier to install than the prior version. Here's link for the package: http://lunatics.kwsn.net/index.php?module=Downloads;sa=dlview;id=354 The OpenCL command line parameters are important for this app, and the readme has some good info on how to choose them. |

Tasks getting "Timed out - no response" errors
(Message 1364857)
Posted 14 days ago by Fred E.
Let's see if the driver update fixes it. It's hard to say what's going on with the AP tasks with just one to look at. But, you're also getting a higher than normal inconclusive rate on the stock 6.10 gpu application as well as the optimized version that you stopped running, so you need to watch that to see if there is improvement. |

Ever since i redone windows 7 Ultimate i have not used lunatic anymoreDon't understand why you returned to running stock? You'll get more gpu errors this way. this is also an added issue included but have not said anything about it for AstroPulse v6 v6.04 (opencl_nvidia_100).. evry time this runs ( which has no issues) when it's uploading then ready to report it errors out every time.. Can i get a bit of help on it but without having to downgrade my GPU driver to do it. This might help - its the section from my app_info file for my cruncher with a GTX460 Rob, ACP is now running the stock r1316 app, so the app_info section for r1761 won't help. And, by the way, the command line parameters cut my run time in half for that app. @ACP: I echo Rob's suggestion to upgrade to a WHQL driver. That 311.06 driver has bugs. You only have one AP result in error status that hasn't purged, and it is an access error. Are you talking about the two that are shown in progress? If so, do they run to completion? Or did you have some that have purged? |

I've been able to get enough lucky hits to stay busy, but have to look often to see what's up. There hasn't been any AP splitting for days.Server Status page looks like it's time to mount some new files, so AP splitting should resume soon. That should help with the work shortage. It's a nice change of pace for them at least being able to send what they can send.+1000 |

I was running low until I hit the right moment, and got 69 new tasks. Apart from one solitary mid-AR resend, every single one was a shorty. They just get snapped up too darn quickly during a shorty storm - we need mid-AR or AP to damp things down a bit. Had a similar result with a lucky fetch. I'm out of AP and have mostly shorties, so my 83 gpu tasks sum to 2 hours of crunch time per BoincTasks. Have set up my zero resource share project for the maintenance window. |

Multiple task per GPU
(Message 1361049)

Should the application name be SETI@home_Enhanced instead of setiathome_enhanced? I don't run the stock app, so I can't confirm, but it is showing with the @ sign in the stderr's (I substituted the underscore for the blank and case is not important). Check the event log for a task startup to see what app name is used. |

New Version Boinc
(Message 1360867)
Posted 25 days ago by Fred E.
i have a 680 crunching 3 wu at a time and an intel graphics onboard that is currently not doing anything. have set to NNT and waiting for everthing to finish before upgrading. my question is when i upgrade and the new boinc sees the intel graphics and starts to use it will it try to crunch 3 wu at a time on it.Upgrading BOINC won't provide new applications. Think the only application at SETI for Intel gpu's is the Astropulse beta that Raistmer is now testing. See the first few posts in this thread to see if your processor will work with the beta - some do, some don't. It's a manual install, so see the first post in that thread for info. |

How do I revert to 6.10.58?[solved]
(Message 1360448)
Posted 26 days ago by Fred E.
How do I revert to 6.10.58? From 7.0.28 Boinc. Don't think you need to do the uninstall. If you have any tasks on hand, backup the project's directory (also preserves the opt apps installation). I'd also suspend BOINC's network access (activity menu) prior to the install. Run the 6.10.58 install. Then, before starting BOINC, run the installer a second time. The installer sees that you're trying to reinstall the same version and will offer a repair option. Run that repair option, and the installer will overwrite the newer files from 7.0.28 with the correct ones for 6.10.58. I did this several times from 6.12.xx versions back to 6.10.58, but haven't tried it since I went to 7.0.xx. If you're draining the cache, guess you won't hit any inverse of the time estimate problem that hits people on anon platform when they go to 7.0.28 and newer versions. |

Work-to-be-done stats?
(Message 1359596)
Posted 28 days ago by Fred E.
Is there any graph showing the amount of work to be done in the SETI "queue"? Not to my knowledge. I realize new raw data is constantly being added from various sources. Plus, existing data is being re-analyzed with different techniques. But is there any estimate over time re: how many WU's or Teraflops of work has yet to be done? Is the workload backlog growing rapidly? Holding steady? Or is S@H chipping away such that the backlog is actually going down? My computer has been working on Arecibo data recorded in May 2012, but I'm not sure I can glean anything about the backlog from that info. Looks like the crunch power has worked down the backlog quite a bit and the current constraints are (1) observation time at Arecibo, as described in this post by Matt Lebofsky, and (2) some server constraints as he described in the first post in the same update thread. I"m currently crunching work from Jan and Feb of this year, so that's another indication that there's not a large backlog. There's a plan to switch to another observatory but not much has been said about that in recent months. P.S. Welcome to the project! |

(Message 1358466)

One reportedly escaped capture, and another was shot by police and taken to a local hospital. Another man was seen sprawled on the ground in footage shown on WHDH-TV.A second police officer was wounded in that shootout and is in critical condition. Perhaps that's who was on the ground in the above quote. No confirmation of a second arrest and current reports say he's still at large. |
