Eric,
Just who do you refer to specifically as White Supremacists ? Do you have any names? Or is it a group of people that begins with a (C)? Conservatives perhaps? Just curious.

Now to the folks on both sides. This Project is a worthy project. I don't know Eric personally but I bet if he would allow my free speech along with a nice Frosty Mugged Heineken I would find no wrong in him. (hint ! hint !) I'm waiting Eric, I'll buy the 2nd, round. :)

The hateful back and forth needs to Stop! I have no doubts that the Project Scientist's at SETI are just as nice as the Stardust at Home team. Let's continue to help them and instead of tearing each other down lets build each other up with the good things people need to hear. It took me a while to learn that lesson, I should have listened sooner to my Grandmother, born (1893) ,rest her soul, who repeated what was said in her day. " You win more people over with Honey than you do with Vinegar"

So if we are going to paint people with a Broad Brush, let it be with the Broad Brush of Kindness, Respect, Common Courtesy. If we do we will walk away feeling better about ourselves. That's a good
feeling, free of stress knowing I built my brother up instead of tearing him down.

I have been an Astronomer all my life and I think the world of my Colleagues . I just turned 68 Sunday and I hope I can still help the SETI if I reach 98.

I am sorry to hear of Dr. Backer's passing. His contributions to our discipline will be long remembered. My heartfelt sympathy is with his family. The astronomical community will feel the loss but at the same time celebrate his life and how he touched the lives of others and encouraged them to be a part of the next generation of astronomers.

Rest In Peace,

On 18 June 2008 I uploaded finished work and it has been listed as pending Credit in the amount of 52.77
Task ID 884454357
Workunit ID 283714684

I am wondering why it has taken this long for the credit to be applied or did the system fail and left that listed still as pending credit. Maybe someone at SETI@home might check into it for me. This has been the first time this happened since I joined on 7 April 2002.
Thanks for looking into it.
7) Questions and Answers : Windows : Pending Credit is taking too long to be credited. (Message 776423)

Post:
I have been crunching data for Seti@home since April 7, 2002. I have two work units with pending credit, they have been waiting for some time now. I know that SETI has grown by leaps and bounds but I don't understand why the work units have been waiting to be credited for such a long, long time. Maybe someone at SETI can check into that.

Thanks

8) Questions and Answers : Windows : Downloading New Work from SETI@home (Message 681303)

Many people have described this problem. The work around is to download the correct version by hand, or copy it from a computer that already has the file downloaded.

I believe that this should suply the answers you need.

Hi John,
I just tried downloading an older version but the same thing is occurring. It's strange as all my other boinc research programs are downloading smoothly now. I have uninstalled and re-installed 3 or 4 times but still SETI is fowling up. I wonder which of the earlier installations will work? Thanks for your suggestion.

I have been running SETI@home for several years now. Starting a few days ago I have had a terrible time downloading (setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe). It's size is 2.06MB but continues far beyond those parameters. Then it re-starts only to continue and not finish even though it shows the download at 100% complete. Einstein at home, LHC@home, Rosetta@home and FightAIDS@home all work without flaw. All of the projects have worked well together for a very long time. I can't help but think someone at SETI screwed up something by accident. My diagnostic software says my system is fine so the problem is not on my end.
10) Questions and Answers : Windows : Nothing will download (Message 618527)

The site says everything is up and running but downloads are not working. Other Boinc projects have consistant problems as well. Einstein at home is now dispensing files that take 151 hours to process. LHC at home sends out work once in a blue moon. Maybe the college kids ought not to be in charge and leave it to professionals.
11) Questions and Answers : Windows : Account Number Not Set, Please set your SETI@Home Account Number (Message 577167)

Just today this message appeared on the bottom right of my computer just above the clock. I checked my account and the account number is there. Why is this message there and how would I reset the account number? It doesn't show where to go to do it. Is it a fluke because of all the work their doing at SETI to improve the running of it? I'm at a loss trying to figure out whats going on. Any Ideas?

Sounds like a rant to me.

Actually, NOT a Rant but a moarning of the fact that I am gravely ill and wish I did have 8 or 10 computers like many. But due to the fact that grave illness wiped out two thirds of everything I ever had I have only one computer and wish I had much more to give to the project. I really do think the world of the folks at SETI@home.
I fully expected a judgmental response as many in the world look for the possible negatives in a comment rather than the good.
I plan to process the data for the 3 projects I support until they shut down or my demise, which ever comes first.

Wonderful! Enhanced Work Units, take longer and you will get more credit, NOT! , lol, just like Washington every time someone tries to improve things then they go Bezerkley!
But we who love science must be loyal and continue to press onward and help our friends at Berkeley because they are great folk and deserve our assistance and that's the bottom line.

Version 5.2 of the Boinc client is great! This is the first upgrade in years that has performed perfectly on my Widows Millenium edition. Before the screensavers always fouled up and errors resulted. Whoever put 5.2 together should be commended and I give you two thumbs up. Thanks! :-)

Wait more than a few minutes. They've had some issues lately, and should get the e-mail to you at some time or another.

It could take a day or two.

Thanks, I will give it a couple days since the site is having some issues
then I will try again. Appreciate your kind help. Ron.

I thought I might help out with boinc climate prediction besides SETI & Einstein @ home.
I created an account and the message after stated "if you don't receive your key by e-mail within a few minutes then your isp might be blocking it. I called my isp and they said they don't block the e-mails from getting through. I don't have anything else that would block climate prediction from getting through to give me a key. Since I have an acoount but no key I can't contact them to let them know I haven't received the key. Can anyone who is in climate prediction besides seti & einstein at home help me? I would be most grateful. My e-mail address is astronomer24357@verizon.net Now a plug for my website ;-) which can be found at: astronomer24357.com

I like you have been very impatient with Boinc. But helping SETI@home &
Einstein@Home is important work. I had to take a reality check and I chose
to be more patient. The 4 people at SETI in Berkeley work very hard and
they really do a good job in spite of hardware problems.
Some day they will get on top of the hardware problems and improve the screensavers in such a way that doesn't cause a client error. This is a work in progress. As for me I will stick with them, their good folk. This is good science.
