1) Message boards : Number crunching : Do we have a Boinc virus? (Message 241308)
Posted 3151 days ago by Profile Mchl

We should know by now that not everything is as it seems, and it's really best to leave the damn Trojan Horses alone.

It shouldn't take 300 years to learn that lesson, even if the right number is closer to 3000.

The problem is, if I ask my younger siblings, if they know what a 'trojan horse' is, they don't recall the story of Troy, but rather tell me about malware.
Fine, they're less likely to have their computers infected, but aren't they missing some more general meaning?

Sorry for the offtopic. It is getting late in this timezone.

There's a googlegroup, where you can (occasionally) hear from creators of the project.

I wonder, if the fact, that the last news update on this project was on 1st of April may be of any significance... :)

Hello
All of you discuss current and maximum expected number of users (active or nor). In my opinion we should take a look at number of active hosts.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : XML stats (Message 31786)
Posted 3640 days ago by Profile Mchl
My guess is, that we won't be seeing results, and pending credits pages, sooner than a separate machine is put up to handle the web pages (and stats maybe). This means need for obtaining and setting-up new hardware which is usually a lengthy process. I just hope we won't have to wait for XMLs so long.

P.S. I dont like to be called a 'client' or 'customer' of BOINC/S@H. I prefer the word 'volunteer'.

Because nobody knows the exact date. Just hope it'll be soon.

As far as I remember SETI Classic had to move all statistics demands on another server. At times, there were so many ppl, who wanted to see their stats that it was impossible for website to work efiiciently (thus making it impossible to download S@H client for example)

My PC is being used in an office. Working on huge spreadsheets and so huge databases. Yet the time units are processed is still lower than estimated. And I don't complain ;-)

Yeah, I like it too. I really do (this is not a sarcasm of any sort).
It is kind of a way I expected it to be.

4.03 is version of Seti client running under control of BOINC 4.06 clinet.
If youwere participating in LHC for example, you'd get Sixtrack 4.46 client from them ;-)

Benchmarks seem to underestimate my pc's computing power sa well. I run S@H,LHC and CPDN and I finish wu's for S@H and LHC in less time than estimated. Still computing my first CPDN unit ;-)
This probably mean my pc claim less pending credit...but who cares...Glad I get that credit at all ;-)

On SETI@home Classic site, there is a sky map, with marked part covered with Arecibo RO. AFAIK there are plans of introducing another radiotelescope for S@H purposes. One that would cover part of southern sky.
Going further:
I guess NASA is doing their work more or less fine. Let them concentrate on reaching the Moon. Once we're there, SETI (and other astronomers) would probably like to build a RO on the far side, where human-made radio interferrence is negligible.
Hope to see that one day ;-)

Well...I have a proper link at 'my account' page, which leads me to the list of my posts. The problem is, the number next to it (post count) has stuck on 2 and is not increasing.

Don't understand, why you had to create a new account. It has nothing to do with reinstlling your system.

You know no Polish G.Is. for sure. Here compulsory service is something to evade at all costs (even bribes are common). It is so, because compulsory service in Polish Army is at least unpleasant and completly uneffective. (AFAIK there's a limit of 200 rifle bullets per soldier on his 12 months service)
Proffesional service is different thing. Me myself have signed a 'precontract' for post university training.
