If you do not Want/Value Your Privacy...Then you haven't Lived a Full Life.
...

Are Microsoft, Apple, and Google the new Religions and Church for the Power of Marketing to steer the unwary and uneducated down the path of Consumerism into a polluted Hell on Earth?

Meanwhile, the very human false gods at the top of the game giggle and laugh their way to the bank and magnanimously scatter a few coins to keep their game rolling...

Roll-up roll-up!

All quite a game!!

For all Believers, you WILL Believe in Windows 10!

Make sure you unclick Astropulses in your preferences on your account page so you don't get sent any APs

<app_config>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_v8</app_name>
<plan_class>cuda50</plan_class>
<avg_ncpus>0.20</avg_ncpus>
<ngpus>0.40</ngpus>
</app_version>
<app_version>
<app_name>setiathome_v8</app_name>
<plan_class>cuda42</plan_class>
<avg_ncpus>0.20</avg_ncpus>
<ngpus>0.40</ngpus>
</app_version>
<project_max_concurrent>2</project_max_concurrent>
</app_config>

This should allow either any combo of cuda 42 or cuda 50 to run on your machine.

I'm assuming you know how to make a app_config.xml and where to place it?

If not, let us know.

Never done it always let the Optimized App do app_info.xml.
I think that it goes in the data folder for S@H...Will this also allow my 3 free cores to run V8

Would any of these work on my Host #7258562? GTX660sc Kepler core.
I only want to run 2 V8 Cuda 42 0r 50 no astropulse on it as it Errors them out.
I'm running Stock on that Box.

Possibly the OCd card is causing errors, try slowing it down with something like MSI afterburner

Tried that...Any new ideas anyone?
Even though Stock is doing well ATM.

My GTX660sc with a Kepler chip does not run the Optimized App without failing.
The GTX750 sc runs Cuda 50. And my ATI 7770 runs cat5 tasks just fine.
Amd cards don't seem to stress a CPU core as much as nVIDIA cards do.
On all of my boxes except the one with the GTX 660 I use the "Lunatics Optimized App v44" and run 2 tasks per card. Only 1 on my old HD4750.

...but please, please, please keep this thread alive and up to date, cause it is momentary really the best resource for keeping your (my) flawless running 7s and 8.1s systems relatively clean - very much appreciated - thanks a lot! :)

It's just a shame that it now has no relation to what the thread was originally started for.

Actually, what is being posted is exactly in relation to what the thread was created for. When I created this thread it was to get the opinions and experiences of those of us who installed the malware, now known as Win 10, whether the opinions were either positive or negative. Even though there have been few positive posts to this thread, the majority of posts have been in the negative. If M$S had not forced updates on every version of 10, except for Enterprise, and if M$S did not pulled the wool over everyone's eyes when it came to the security an end-users machine in regards to the privacy of that end-user, I think the outcome would have been completely different.

I installed this malware on my machine on 30 July and deeply regretted it. It corrupted the machine so badly that I could not even revert back to Win 7 via the process provided by M$S. I had to do a complete fresh install of Win 7 on 31 July, with the saving grace being that my data was saved, including BOINC, because it resides on a separate physical drive (D:). So the system drive (C:) and the backup drive (E:) had to be completely reformatted to be of any use.

I am a retired IT professional, in my 70s, and unless M$S comes to its' senses, I may have to learn a completely new OS and it's associated languages and software. As it is now Win 7 will be like XP and will last until HE@ll freezes over. As it stands at this point is time, I may not be able to upgrade my CPU beyond Skylake because M$S changed hardware requirements for supporting older versions of Windows, by only supporting new silicon on Windows 10 moving forward.

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/microsoft-will-not-support-older-windows-versions-on-upcoming-pc-hardware.html

So HE@LL YES, it is continuing to be in complete relation of the intentions of its' creation.

+1

v44 Errored every CUDA 50 is why I dropped back to stock on that box,
I don't have any clue as to what v44 choice to try.
It screwed up when I tried CUDA 42 also.?!

I *think* Jim might be expecting the installer to detect the kinds of GPU installed. Please correct me if I am wrong Jim. No you have to select the applications to install with the radio buttons. It is of course entirely technically possible to detect such hardware and automate selections, though it seems shortcut malware/antivirus heuristics don't like such approaches, so please know what hardware you have (and select accordingly) :) Most likely future detection automation will rely on post installation features.

Yer Hit thuh Nale on thuh Haid My Friend. ;)
It's the GTX660sc and it errors all cuda 50 with Lunatics v44.
Which one would you suggest Sir? :b....

Just a dumb question, does all this update avoidance take more time than hitting a close box on a advert once a day, and unchecking a box in optional updates once a week?

To answer the question absolutely literally and specifically, yes. It does take more time and effort than just closing the nagware.

But it doesn't actually take much effort. By now, I've got most of the KB numbers memorized, largely because they have shown up so many times. As I've said before though, you don't have to pour through every update that becomes available, just the ones that start with "Update for..." rather than "Security Update for..."

So that cuts down the ones that require looking-into. Once you've hidden an update, it doesn't come back unless MS updates it (which changes the unique hash for it, not the KB number), at which point, you just hide it again.

To add to what Mark said.. yes, it is a matter of principle. I have and like 7. I did play with the tech preview for 10 and I liked that, as well. What I did not know during the tech preview is that the system is so....intrusive and throws every bit of privacy that you thought you had right out the window. So on principle, I don't want 10.

7 Doesn't scan all of your emails, or index all the files on your computer--AND the contents within those files--and upload it all to "the Cloud" so that MS and advertisers can do what they please with all of it. When I search for a local file on MY computer in 7, it just searches the filesystem to find it--as it should. In 10, that same search goes and does a Bing search of the indexes that have been gathered and put into the cloud. There is literally no justifiable reason for a LOCAL file search to go to the Internet to run through a database there to find what you're looking for.

That's the main problem here. Yes, I will admit that most of the spying features can be toned-down or turned-off, but you can't turn them all off 100%. And MS has proven that with the updates that you have no control over, an update can just turn all of that back on if it so wishes to. Remember my post a few days ago about the "Immutable Laws of Security"? "#2 If the the bad guy can alter your OS on your computer, it is no longer your computer."

So that's why this "updates to avoid" list contains more than just blocking-out the nagging for upgrading to 10, but it also blocks-out the updates which add telemetry and data points to 7 and 8.1... to harvest all information about what you do, admittedly, probably not quite as bad as 10 does, but still. Before 10 came out, 7 and 8.1 only collected info on you if you opted-in to it. Now, they're trying to force it on everyone by being deceptive and misleading. That's shady, and I do not personally approve of it.

So, in summary, blocking updates does take some minor effort and vigilance, but ultimately, it is entirely optional and nobody is forcing anyone to be vigilant, either. It is entirely optional and voluntary. To each their own though.

And I Thank You Sir For keeping us updated.
Much Appreciated!

Why won't v44 Recognize my Video card right?
It's an nVIDIA 660sc Kepler core.
