Crackling is electrical arcing. So you have a trace that is broken with current flowing through it and it is jumping the gap. Or you could have a capacitor that is breaking down and arcing internally too. Death sentence I would assume.

Can't see anything in the dark, Must be Cap having internal Death.

OK, I have run out all of my old tasks and am ready to remove all of my old drivers and put in the GTX 1050.
Do I need to remove and re-install BOINC or just do the drivers to start Crunching again and just Let 'er fly?

YUP, The motherboard has 2 sockets with leads to supply power to the HDD/CD/DVD. And I ain't seen that kind of MONSTER EVER! ( Until Now.)
Neither have I.

That's one weird board. 14 pin PSU connector & a 4 pin CPU connector.

MB Manual

I went ahead and put in my 750w PS with the Adapter I had and am running out all of my tasks.
I also downloaded all of the drivers and gadgets that I wanted.
When the time comes I will drop in the GTX1050 and see how things go.
Wish me luck.

Can I just not use those and use 2 of the SATA power plugs on the PS and cover the sockets on the MB?

Not sure I follow.
You're saying the motherboard has a socket with leads to supply power to the HDD/CD/DVD unit(s)?
Never come across such an arrangement myself- I would always go for just using the ones straight from the power supply.

Edit
Also Should I run out the tasks Before I make the switch from the AMD Video card to the GTX 1050?

I'd say it's be a good idea to finish all of your GPU WUs. I can see BOINC starting up, and it not finding the GPU unit it expects, and the application being the wrong one for the new GPU, and trashing all the existing GPU work in your cache.

I'd suggest running down the GPU work, then in the BOINC Manager- Activity, Suspend (to halt all processing), shutdown the system. Fit the new video card, power up and install the drivers, then when all is good, re-enable processing again.

Howdy Folks,
I bought a lenovo thinkcentre m82 intending to put my GTX 1050 in.
First off the 24 pin power needed an adapter to put in a better Power Supply to use it, Got it , Works good however i discovered that I had 2 4 pin sockets that were for the SATA power to the HD and DVD/CD player.
Can I just not use those and use 2 of the SATA power plugs on the PS and cover the sockets on the MB?
Also Should I run out the tasks Before I make the switch from the AMD Video card to the GTX 1050?

Thanks in Advance,

Jim Scott
