1) Questions and Answers : GPU applications : GPU problem w/ Radeon HD6310 (Message 1489509)

I had my old NVIDIA WU fail and have had it replaced with an alternative GPU. This is not recognised by a current Astropulse WU - I am getting a "GPU missing" message. The WU is hung at 99.099% of course! What is we best way to deal with this work unit now? Abort?
Thanks.

Anyone know if tax-efficient donations can be made to SETI from UK? Like Gift Aid or Deed of Covenant. Seems a shame not to make use of this additional money. Roger

I have been more than happy with the info provided by Jeff, Matt, volunteer Scarab and Soft-spirit. Thanks. Enough to satisfy my curiosity and confirm it is not a problem at my end. Withdrawal symptoms notwithstanding, most of us value and appreciate your efforts. Keep up the good work. BTW It was helpful to have updated news on the homepage to save picking through the Notice Boards. Roger

Same for me - so it must be a general problem. We will have to wait and see what the experts have to say. Roger
5) Questions and Answers : Web site : statistics sig on forum posts (Message 675874)

This is not exactly on topic, but I would appreciate some advice on results stats. I have not been able to find a breakdown of statistics which shows individual, group and project breakdown of high scoring units, i.e. those which look unusual, interesting or promising. I can find how much work I have done over the years, ranking etc. but not whether any of it was potentially interesting and how my data compares more widely. Make allowances for an oldie and explain please, someone. If you do not wish to contaminate this thread, please email me directly. Thanks.

6) Message boards : SETI@home Science : Seth Shostak Article (Message 232274)

Has anyone been to Space.com lately? Read the article by Seth Shostak. It seems Seth is a Senior Astronomer at SETI. Seth says that we are wasting are time. That the chance SETI has of finding a signal is zero. It's nice that Seth has a great attitude towards all of this research.

Do you have a URL for the Shostak piece you describe, please? I have had a look at the website and it was not immediately obvious to me - tho maybe I have not woken up yet! What you describe could almost be the nul hypothesis for the SETI@home experiment.

this is the right Article, i think

Transmitting to a Million Worlds

Thank you - a very intersting read - as usual - from Shostak - and I can see no grounds for taking his comments as a put down for the SETI@home exercise, I read it as saying quite the opposite. What exactly is causing the concern?

Greetings from Germany NRW
Ulli
