That's not unusual for portable devices. The FPUs on phones and tablets typically process at 1/10th the speed of a desktop computer of the same clock rate.

When seeing the Android beta message, this was the very first thing that popped up in my head - considering the low-power -> low crunch rate of mobile phones, why make an ARM version to begin with? Is crunching on your mobile really going to contribute to the grand scale of SETI and other BOINC projects, or is it just going to drain your battery faster without making much of a difference at all?
Especially considering a single desktop GPU will probably be equivalent to 100 phones or so, if not more :P

OK, well I'd best wait for it to be in release then.

3) Questions and Answers : Windows : BOINC CLI version service terminates upon logoff (Message 6915)

I was alerted by a friend to the problem who doesn't have time himself to write. Installing the boinc CLI as a service (since it is supposed to keep running on machines that have to be on, but not logged in) works, the service is installed and started. HOWEVER: the moment the user logs off, the service stops. logging back on, same or different user, the service remains stopped.

I have tried several things:
1) forcefully setting the permissions for network service to the boinc directories. no fix
2) installing boinc on an XP system that has no file system permissions (fat32 drives). no fix
3) changing the service type logon to SYSTEM SERVICE (local sstem account) as it is installed as network service by default. no fix

In all cases, upon a user log-off, the service stops. This practically nullifies the use of boinc as a system service...

Is there a fix for this? Is there a workaround?

Detaching and re-attaching didn't fix it, resetting didn't fix it. the uninstall, then total deletion of the install directory after the uninstaller ran, followed by a clean re-install fixed the problem.

The exponential back-off seemed to be reset on occasion though, as the time would increase, then be reset to a shorter wait (this machine isn't on 24/7 by the way, perhaps that is why...? Just a guess) anyway, the re-install fixed it; that is the most important thing.

I've had them running side-by-side while BOINC servers were straightening out their problems, and both clients seemed to work fine, dividing the idle cycles between them. As long as there are server problems for BOINC I'd suggest to keep the classic client installed, and check on your queue in BOINC regularly. if it runs dry, start the classic client until there's more work in BOINC.

just my $0.02 ;)

ps: you can use a simple tool like "startup control panel" by Mike Lin to temporarily disable the classic client without removing the entry completely from the startup in the registry, and if there are some continued problems, re-enable the seti classic autostart with the click of a button.

I've set up SETI@Home/Boinc to use a custom logo in the bottom right. it does OK, loads the logo and everything BUT: boinc keeps giving me the following error now, whether i have the logo active or not (meaning the URL in the prefs or blank):

Can't resolve hostname null (host name not found)
Couldn't start download for null: error -113
Backing off 3 hours, 35 minutes, and 6 seconds on transfer of file user_logo_1089219895

and it will retry after that time, fail, give me the same error, and back off again.

Any idea how to fix this, since getting an (i)nformation warning on Boinc in my systray for this will eventually make me stop paying attention ;) and I'll probably miss more important infos then :P

Thanks.
