While S@H has been down ive joined predictor at home. Now that I have done this boinc no longer requests wus from s@H. One of the fundamental aims of the boinc project was to allow participants to share PC time between projects. In order to try and get S@H wus this morning ive dumped 35MBs of p@h wus only to fing that s@h is not putting out. so now i'm downloading a pile of p@h wus again to keep going. It looks as if we can only run one project per pc after all.

Is this true? It looks like it to me.

Aack! You dumped 35MBs of P@H WUs??????

I hope you realise that by doing this, you've pretty much just screwed a bunch of people out of credits for at the very least two weeks!

Look... It is normal for a new project to dominate the WU queue for a week or two until the resource share balances out. This is normal operation. BOINC does allow you to share CPU time between multiple projects. You just need to let it work.

What you are doing is not only hosing many other people, but also yourself. Now, instead of just processing the P@H WUs and bringing the resource share closer to allowing S@H work, you need to download more P@H and start over. :(

Another thing to remember is that while it will split time between projects, this is not done simultaneously. It will work on one project, then another depending on your resource share. What this means is, you will download enough WUs to fill your cache from one project. When the low watermark is hit, you may download WUs from another project to fill the queue. However, you will not actually start processing these WUs until the other project is finished with the work you're doing.

Calm down. Why would I expect it to wipe the wu's off my disk? Of course I realise i've left some people waiting for my result.

Other people are suffering the same problem too and doing the same things so dont be so abrupt.

I have watched repeatedly as P@H up and downloads while failing to ask s@H about wus so it is not clear whether your advice 'let it work' is correct because that is what i've been trying to do. However in line with the aim of the boinc project the choice about which project i work for is mine.

It will download more S@H WUs when your resource share is balanced, assuming there is work to be had on the servers.

Of course. It just operates a little differently than you are expecting.

Can you explain about resource share.

I am set up with S@H 80% P@H 20%. I have approximately 80 P@H wus and no S@H. Boinc is not requesting wus from S@H. But up and downloads regularly from P@H.

You can find some nice explanation of resource share at this place.

Greetings from Belgium.

Set your amount of days to request work from P@H to something lower then. I was hit with the same problem earlier, even though the S@H server being down lots of time didn't help much either, but I now have 3 WUs for both projects.

Resource share is 50-50.
Amount of days requested from S@H is .5 to 1
Amount of days requested from P@H is .5 to 1

If you save your preferences per project like this, wait 10 seconds then update both the projects through BOINC, you will see that after a while BOINC will warn that it hit the low water mark for S@H, request an additional scheduler and then units will come in.

Yet this only happens when you have lower than the low water mark amount of workunits for either prject. As long as BOINC has still got plenty of P@H units for you, it won't ask the other project to give work units.

And rightly so, for all units have a 14 day return policy. Can you crunch 80 P@H units in 14 days?

Expect BOINC to take 1 to 4 weeks to get the resource debts balanced out and to start getting work from different projects every or every other time it fills the queue. Setting the new project to a lower resource share will reduce the time it takes to get things balanced but not eliminate the delay. So 'let it work' is the correct advice for most of a month. If the problem still presists after that then it will be time to look for other problems.
