What I see are the trigger values for each of the donation flags, not the actual total amount donated.
These are used to get hold of the appropriate icons.

Firefox must be displaying the alt tags. You are both

alt="Special Project $75 donor" title="Special Project Donor"

Greetings,

I did a re-load of this page and do not see what others are. I'm using the latest version of Firefox v65.0 (64 bit). I do not use developer versions of any software.

I looked at the html source and there are many, many errors in the code. Mostly missing closing tags ">". I also saw errors of "dual attributes" and "no spaces between attributes". I doubt this may have anything to do with the current issue, but I figured it was worth mentioning just in case. :)

Have a great day! :)

I've switched to a different machine, to do some proper debugging work, and I can report:

I'm using the same Chrome browser on both machines. Upstairs, the browser window for SETI opens automatically as a secure home page (https)

Downstairs, I don't have that home page set up on the debug machine, so I clicked on the Message boards button in BOINC Manager. That still links (tsk, tsk, Eric!) to the insecure version of the link: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_index.php

In insecure mode - apart from the security warning on the address bar - Chrome shows the special fundraiser icons as broken image links, with the alt text beside them: but it shows avatars and my boring old green star correctly.

Could Firefox be showing you a preview in insecure mode, before switching automatically to secure mode?

It's not a preview, its the text instead of the little icons for the various extra bits we have donated. - If you look you will see the "pretty picture" used to indicate that an image has failed to load from either the server or your local cache.
And for those that don't have the "advantage" of seeing the things that Chris is seeing just hover over each of the tiny images in my banner area and you will see the text that Chris is talking about.

When I hover over the icons (correctly displayed over an https connection only), they show the 'title' text only, not the 'alt' text with the contribution trigger value.

Hi Richard,

But none of the tooltips that pop up show the dollar value as your screen grab does. When I looked at the HTML code I also saw no dollar values, only the text shown when hovering on the image(s). Why would a dollar value show in your screen grab?

Have a great day! :)

Siran

[edit]
I looked deeper into the HTML code and it does show the dollar value in the alt tag. Some how I missed it before. :(
