I'm thinking of upgrading my video card for faster computing but I'm not sure which one would be the best for the money. Does OpenCL performance correlate well with graphics performance? Since some cards with overclocked GPUs or memory can be much more expensive I wonder if such a card would really be enough faster to justify the cost. I am only looking at AMD not Nvidia (for open source reasons) and probably an rx 570 or 580 class GPU. Thoughts?

Are you totally against Nvidia drivers because they are proprietary and not open-source on principle? Nvidia drivers are available in Linux. The list mentioned shows that the highest performance in graphics performance is by running Linux on Nvidia because of our volunteer Linux app developer Petri33.

There isn't a good correlation between graphics performance and computational performance.
In terms of computational performance - how much do you want to spend?
AMD GPUs may appear to be a little "cheaper", but their computational performance at each price-point is below that of nVidia.

(And since you are running Linux it would be a simple no-brainer to run a recent nVidia GTX 1070 or better with the "Petri application" as it makes everything else look "very shoddy".)

You can see where AMD cards fall out on two metrics, Credit/per hour and Credit/per Watt-hour in Shaggie76's chart of gpu performance of all gpu cards running Seti. The chart only covers the stock apps so does not show or represent any gpus running Linux and the special Petri app.

On the LeaderBoard, this card seems to be performing very well

Looks like you could buy it used on eBay for as low as $100-$125 buy it now price.

There are cheap, brand new RX 470 8gb mining cards on sale for $109 on Newegg. They only have one dvi-d output, but they should process work units to give you about 400-450 credits per hour. That's pretty good for a $109 brand new card. They only come with a 30 day warranty however.
