. . Cool by me, I am into a bit of nostalgia ...

. . To be slightly more serious, it's good that we are sweeping up the crumbs.

I just noticed this big tape/file in the queue. Wonder if this is a sign of things to come blc34_2bit_guppi_58389_22167_FRB121102_DIAG_0013 180.04 GB

That is interesting. Anyone know about file name conventions for gbt??

The database defrag seems to have helped. The system has been running smoothly this week. I hope the weekly shutdown is short tomorrow.

The "FRB" looks interesting in the name of the file. My guess is "Fast Radio Burst" and links in with recent news about a new repeating FRB source that has recently been detected.

They seem to be finding all kinds of data that has fallen through the cracks. Lots of oldies from Arecibo.

. . Better late than never. Given the time frame for EMR to reach here from even the closest neighbours I don't think the delay will matter much ...

I can take FRB being Fast Radio Burst, but anyone got an idea what the GJ is in blc34_2bit_guppi_58405_85972_GJ687_0028.4001.818.21.44.244.vlar_0 ?

That's the sort of question one would like to think could be answered on the Breakthrough Listen website, but I haven't found it yet.

The Open Data page has a drop-down list of targets that astronomers can use to access raw data for download, which includes just the one FRB target, and about 17 GJ targets, but no indication which (?sky catalog) is being used.

FRB 121102 (the sole representative) was the subject of a science alert

GJ seems to be the Gliese–Jahreiß (GJ) catalog, an addendum to the Gliese Catalogue of Nearby Stars.

. . It seems it was just a glitch. Status page now 2 mins fresh except for splitting rate at 6 mins and the replica is 3 hours stale.

I wonder if there were some changes made to the splitters during the last outage?

For ages now the GBT splitters would all tend to process only a couple of files, and all of the same number. Currently we're getting a good mix of GBT work from about 5 different files- which is good. It reduces the likely hood of a shorty storm, or nothing but extremely long running WUs.
Keeps the load on the system much more steady; no sustained periods of severe loads of returned work.

I have had similar feelings about the current work distribution.

I agree it is good, however I do like a good shortie storm. I generally try am all short work units to the front of the queue, reason it gets the work done quicker creating space for more work IMO
