We've started our 2018 funding drive. Many of you have probably received our email penned by one of our undergraduate researchers. If you can't wait, you can read yours here. Because we're not yet fully GDPR compliant, we're not sending emails to anyone with an EU/EAA email addresses, anyone who listed an EU/EAA country, or anyone who listed "International" as their country. And, of course, anyone who has opted out of our emails won't get them. Thanks for your support! ![]() ![]() |

Sabrina mentioned that we were able to buy a server to handle the Breakthrough Listen data from the Parkes telescope. The server Centurion handles the Green Bank Telescope data, do we know yet what the Parkes data server will be called? |

This would be a good opportunity to prime the pump for a Gridcoin research economy. Please set up a wallet for the SETI project so that those of us with Gridcoin can donate crypto. |

Our gridcoin wallet is listed on the donation page... SHJ1iGtngsrMNHXEc8K8J7yxqkaJ6og4du . My mining goes directly into it. ![]() ![]() |

The server Centurion handles the Green Bank Telescope data, do we know yet what the Parkes data server will be called? The server is named "amigos." It seemed appropriate since the bulk of the funding came from three people. ![]() ![]() |

And as of today, https://www.gridcoinstats.eu/project doesn't show SETI@home as a whitelisted project. I assume it's a mistake because we have been continually generating credit and stats. If it continues I'll look into it. ![]() ![]() |

Perhaps rather 2019 here instead, Eric, because for some reason, I could make it winter next year instead. Possibly it became Divide and conquer here instead, for only a bottle of champagne. |

Hi - I have an extra Nvidia graphics card but no computer to use it on. Is that something you would want at SETI to crunch data or would you rather I just sell it and donate the $? |

Iris, thanks for your help. I'm sure your data transfer capability increase will be highly beneficial for many things, not only for SETI@home ! This message thread is not the best place for this topic, but although the Area 51 legends have proven to be myths, this heavily militarized base is still quite a fascinating thing of its own. And yes, we can only imagine the transformative power of detecting and decyphering the equivalent of a intergalactic encyclopedia ! (Google translate) Hello, I like to help when I can. At the moment my line is still at 16 Mbit. That changes from 09.12.2018, because then I get a 50 Mbit line and can process much more data for you and above all, much faster. I've been interested in the universe for years and how it works. Have also very nice pictures of the universe. It is absolutely fascinating. And I do not think we are alone in space. I would be interested, the Americans have now found a UFO at Roswell and brought a survivor from another world in the AREA 51? Think about how fast it was with technology in many areas. Medicine, computers, communication, and much more. And in a monkey pace !!! ![]() |

Hmm, that was a month ago, and no Parkes data yet. Soon? In the lifetime of a 19 year old project a few months is not unusual. But stop and think, what is the rush? We know that there is the new Amigos server there, and at present I expect that the software is being written and tested for the Parkes data. I doubt they could use the Arecibo or Green Bank algorithms without modification. But even when it does go live, all that will happen is the same front-end will be chucked at the results we send back, and they will be stored away in yet another database somewhere. Nothing further will occur then until the new back-end via Nebula and the Atlas cluster at Hanover is utilised. That is down to David Anderson who is writing and testing the software for Nebula. David's main job is as Director of BOINC, but he is aided by Eric Korpela, Director of Seti@Home in Seti@Home matters. If only Nitpicker had happened, we would be a lot further forward than we are, but funding simply wasn't available at the time. We thought that we might get some money out of the $100 million BTL project but Eric said, from the beginning it was unlikely to happen, and so it turned out to be. According to BoincStats, Seti@home has 27,000 active participants. If each one of us gave just $10 that would amount to $270,000, enough for a dozen new servers and spare drives. I would like to say more but I won't. |

Unfortunately, Parkes took down the multibeam feed we were using for the galactic plane survey and put up the wideband feed. That put a bit of a hitch in our plans. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the update Eric. Yup, the Parkes people haven't exactly helped us have they. The Parkes Observatory is run by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as part of the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) network of radio telescopes. So I guess we have little input as to what they use their telescope for. Shame, we were looking forward to that. So what will the Amigos server be used for now? |
