Just saw I received a email from a Seti graduate student for 2018 donations for hardware and software. Interesting news that they said they have received new Parkes data at Berkeley and it should be distributed to the splitters soon. So the perennial question about when last years fund drive for Parkes hardware would supply actual data seems to have been answered. I would assume all the latest donors from the last special donor pledge to get the email eventually. I wouldn't think they would just target me. I pledged again for this year. Will be waiting for the Parkes data. I'll post the email content minus the usual donor URL. The email came from SETI@home <donors@ssl.berkeley.edu> I'm an undergraduate student who has been working with the Berkeley SETI team for more than three years. I've learned a great deal about the details that go into the complicated projects that are run here. I've spent much of my time on the search for fast radio bursts (FRBs). Lately, I've been writing software that monitors the new SETI and FRB experiments on the FAST radio telescope in China to make sure they are operating properly. The SaH v8 amendments for Green Bank data were designed in a way that should generalise for other sources. I'm watching the pre-processing changes - last month Parkes raw data header parsing.closely followed by Only do Parkes correction for Parkes data.:P So I think it's possible that they might be able to map Parkes data onto the existing apps with only internal testing. We've certainly not been asked to make any application changes so far. |

That 'only do Parkes for Parkes' adjustment reveals that the tapes will be distinguished by the keyword 'guppi_parkes' - so maybe the data formats are more similar than they originally expected. |

Eric told me there will be a v10 application. If Parkes data will work without modification of the apps i`m almost sure it will be tested at beta first just to make sure it works as expected. You would be careful as well. So we`ll see. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

The problem of course with Beta, is that so few people participate when there is something new to test. Why are you here? [edit] If it pleases the court. I have taken my tablet off of SETI Prime and restarted it on SETI Beta. When it's done with Prime, it will do Beta. Happy?!?! That's 1 back on beta. Why are you here? Truth never hurts me, as long as the truth is real. You seem to be here on Prime only to sow dissent throughout the ranks. For someone that has nothing good to say about SETI, it makes me wonder why they are even here, if not to sow dissent. I have done Beta with many of my past machines. If you don't like to see the "Volunteer Tester" tag next to our avatars, go back to Beta and tell them just how "bad" it is over here on Prime. By the way, what was your avatar name before you changed it? I never added your current name to my ignore list and yet you are there. Just curious. ;) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Well, obviously YOU missed everything I said on that line of text. So, here it is for you to fully read: By the way, what was your avatar name before you changed it? I never added your current name to my ignore list and yet you are there. Just curious. ;) So, what was your previous avatar name? BTW, I re-enabled SETI Prime on my tablet since you said there's no work on Beta right now. Then when there IS work on Beta, my table will get some. lol ;) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. -[ snip ]--[ snip ]--[ snip ]- I think I know who you "were" when I ADDED YOUR ID NUMBER to my ignore list, it's just your country of origin, Sweden, that is throwing me off. And, it's because of this attitude you spew out here that you ended up there. I just cannot remember your last avatar name. Just tell me you last avatar name and I'll leave you be to spew you negativity. That simple. :) Siran CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Siran - user NAMES are not a unique identifier, they are just a few words that user xxxxxxx wants to use at a given time. So, if you don't want to read what our Grumpy Swede says then use his unique user number to block seeing comments. If and when there is something to test on Beta I'll move my machines, but there hasn't been anything to test in well over a year so no need to Beta test a app that already on Main. |
