I think Kryonaut is a royal pain to apply. It doesn't spread, it doesn't stick to the IHS, it just rolls off. I tried heating it up in hot water to try and liquefy it more before applying. Made no difference. The temps are 4-6° C. worse than MX-4. MX-4 is easy to apply. Spreads very well into a very thin film which is best for thermal transfer. Easy to wipe off and clean too. The current prediction is my CPU water cooler is due in by "end of the day" tomorrow. So I hope to have the 2990WX back on the air by no later than Wednesday. I hope. We just picked up an inch of snow and it is still flaking. I normally haul the box to my PC technician for this kind of install. I may have to try to fake it into place myself. The chassis is fairly bulky to be wrestling on this slippery ground. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Should get yourself a backup Noctua NH-U14S air cooler for when the AIO takes a dump. I have the 15S version with both AMD and Intel mounting kits so it can cover any machine. Did you get a same for same replacement? Or the revised model? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

For HWiNFO... yeah, linux is the best ...obviously to get top performance out of the machine. But...... I use my machine for other things besides seti, so... sadly, I need to use windows for now, but looking for different ways to switch over to mint. Hopefully one day! Maybe by that time.... HWiNFO will be compatible with linux. I was gonna program some functions with it, so that it could output to an LCD and cycle temps and other info via a raspberry pi. |

I find I don't really miss Hwinfo or SIV all that much now that I've switched to Linux. I find that once I know where the simple parameters are sitting while running, I don't really need to constantly be monitoring them. I know where the cpu clocks are, I set them. For cpu voltages, the same. I set them in the BIOS. For temps, I find the basic cpu temps reported by Linux are all I need, If you can get your SIO chip to report, all is gravy with either psensors or GKrellM reporting them as your monitor. My gpu temps which are really the most important parameters to stay on top of since all hosts are crunchers is handled by the Nvidia drivers. There is no "revised" model listed of the one I am getting replaced. At least there is no version 1 / version 2 listed. I thank you for reminding me that I needed a backup cooler. A lot of the first coolers I looked at from AMD's cooler listing were "out of stock" :( Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

As with many consumer items like this one will probably not see a listing of a "revised" model, they just quietly slip it out and hope nobody will notice that the "old" version was ***p, and the "new" version is a bit less ***p. @Kevin, Have you changed anything? Your wallclock time for cpu tasks is down but the cpu speed is all over the place. Like you stopped OCing and are just using the Turbo Boost options or something else? https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=7140191596 Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

@Kevin, No, the only thing that has changed is the outside temp so the loop temps and CPU temps have dropped slightly. Kevin |

The current prediction is my CPU water cooler is due in by "end of the day" tomorrow. So I hope to have the 2990WX back on the air by no later than Wednesday. I hope. Up. Without manual OCing engaged but all the automatic turboboost (with Cool&Quit off and ram set to speed that is installed [2667]) it is reporting about 3.4GHz. Running 58 odd threads. So now to see how the estimated task times settle down to. I did move one gtx 1060 3GB to my Intel. I have another on order along with the recommended ram. Now to add that Noctua NH-U14S air cooler to my wish list. Is this what I am looking for? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9PV3Y61194&Description=Noctua%20NH-U14S%20air%20cooler%20&cm_re=Noctua_NH-U14S_air_cooler-_-35-608-041-_-Product Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

Up. The gpu times are holding stable in the very low 2 minutes. The cpu times appear to be ranging from 1hr 15minutes to 2hrs 45minutes. The turbo boost still seems to be running at 3.3GHz. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

I find I don't really miss Hwinfo or SIV all that much now that I've switched to Linux. Yeah, if I didn't have a 32 threads on a cpu... I guess I wouldn't mind either. But... After my AIO failures... I like to keep a close eye on not just the temp package, but, on the voltages and frequency as well. Maybe just piece of mind knowing they are running at optimal levels at set temps always available in the start bar... Plus I also monitor GPU and SSD temps as well. So there's that. |

All of that is available in Linux except for some cpu voltages. Cpu clocks are available as easily as invoking a command in Terminal. Temps are handled by the SIO chip that is on your motherboard and what any Windows monitoring program polls for values. Same thing. Psensors or GKrellm give you a simple interface for showing the status of your system just like some applet in the Windows Taskbar. I have always visible my cpu, water, PCH, VRM and SSD temps. I have the case and AIO fan speeds. I have the temps on all my graphics cards visible at all times. So not much different than Windows except I have control over my system and not Microsoft. Well the new (used) ram came in. And it seems to perform to spec except I haven't been able to OC past 3.6GHz. I am still trying to sort out the range of cpu processing times. Ever since mix of tasks started including the ones with the dates in the beginning of their names I have to try to factor those out so they don't skew what I am trying to see. What I am hoping to see is equal or better performance on at least some of my AMD 2990WX tasks as compared to my Intel e5-2690v2 tasks. I am running 1 hour and 6-12 minutes on the Intel. I am getting some tasks in that range or slower on the AMD with a lot more in the 1 hour 40 minute range. What I am not seeing, so far, is tasks processing faster than the Intel even with a faster cpu processing speed. I am running about 56 threads on the Amd compared to 36 threads on the Intel. I suppose the next reasonable step is to lower the number of the threads on the AMD to match the Intel and see how the horses run. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

We're talking about the TR 2990WX system correct? So what memory did you get and what speed are you running it at? You said you can't get past 3.6Ghz on the cpu clock. How are you achieving that? Are you running with Performance Boost in Auto? Are you running Precision Boost Overdrive in Auto or one of the levels? Are you running a manual clock multiplier? What is your cpu voltage? Are you in Auto? Using an Offset or manual cpu voltage? I find that if I want to run all cores at the maximum clock frequency, I have to turn off both Performance Boost and PBO. They are designed to boost the maximum frequency, ONLY a few select threads at any time. Neither is designed to run an all core boost at maximum achievable based on the cpu voltage and core temperature. The way to achieve that is to simply use a target multiplier for all cores. You should be able to get the cpu to run a multiplier of 40 to have an all core clock of 4Ghz across all cores. 3.6Ghz is way below what the cpu is capable of. I have booted to 41 but the app would freeze the screen and cause the HD light to come on and stay on. BRB (rubbing Hands) Oh, yes, I have a "F4-3200C16Q-32GVKB"? kit installed (aka: DDR4-3200 PC4-25600) running with a "memory preset" that is slightly higher# but the same for the 1st/Last# as the ram chip lists on its side. The memory preset does all that "other stuff" talked about in the Amd memory calculator. Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU. Those last two changes (turn off Core Performance boost and Precision Boost Overdrive) got me from 3.9GHz to 4.0GHz!!!! Sorry for the delay. I wanted to try to get the multiplier 41 to run the apps. At voltage 1.2125 the cpu will boot. But got a new symptom. BoincMgr wouldn't start. When I finally switched back to 40/1.2volts BoincMgr started. I am still running at the same core/thread count as my Intel (36). The task manager is reporting 50% cpu usage. After the overnight run at cpu multiplier 36, the times may have reduced. I am getting enough of the slower crunching tasks that it is hard to tell. But it "looks" like at 3.6GHz the times are still running in the 1.75 to 1.50 hour range. I may have to reduce it to Kevin's 24? threads to get the intervals down to his timing. I have the following presets available 14-14-14-14-34 16-18-18-18-38 18-20-20-20-38 I am currently running the 18....38 one because the 18 and 38 were on the chip timing list on the side of the chip. I think I understand that lower numbers within the listed speed (3200 in this case) are faster than higher numbers? Tom A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association). |

OK, that sounds about right for 3.9Ghz and at 1.2V. That is the objective to keep away from 1.3V to keep the thermals in check. Pretty sure that kit is not B-die but Hynix unfortunately. So if you are able to run then at 3200Mhz with the memory preset, that is probably all you will get out of them. Especially if they are a mixed set and not matched. If they are stable then just sit pat. Or you could see if you can drop the latencies to CL14 to speed up the system.
