Hi Maybe this is a dumb question, but here we go. Can the Movidius Neural Compute Stick be used as a GPU for Processing Seti etc. data? Regards Michael B. |

I would think not unless some developer comes up with an application for it. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Can the Movidius Neural Compute Stick be used as a GPU for Processing Seti etc. data? After looking it up, I am not certain you can code anything for it. Instead you have to "teach" it what you want it to do. If I am understanding it right, it is a "pattern recognition" engine. I am not certain you could get it to do the kind of analysis we are doing. That said, it might be able to do "pattern recognition" that would provide "results" that we ultimately want. But we don't do at this stage of the data analysis. Then its a case of not possible at the moment, but possibly a useful tool in the future? Michael B. |

Then its a case of not possible at the moment, but possibly a useful tool in the future? Well, if neuronal net would be able to learn how to produce valid results for our SETI algorithm it would be remarkable result itself, IMHO. Another step to AI :) SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

If the Movidius Neural Compute Stick is mainly a pattern recognition/ visual AI system, then it can have other legitimate Astronomy uses. Perhaps the following:- * Galaxy classification * Asteroid detection * Kuiper belt object detection Are just 3 that come to mind. There are probably many other uses. Michael B. |
