I'd still like to see how a 2080Ti would do on SETI though... :)

Here ya go . . . a 2080Ti on Seti on one of Vyper's hosts. Host 8600449

Nice, but da Vyper is not using da secret sauce. ;)

Even a Titan Xp (Galactic Empire) would be an improvement here, maybe one day.

Hi Keith,

Correct me if I'm reading that wrong, but, 4M+ and over 100K RAC on JUST the GPU, the 2080Ti? In just over a month? 5 days earlier than when I started with this PC? I am SOOOOOOO jealous!!! ;)

Have a great day! :)

Just do the math.

With about 40 secs to crunch a WU. A single 2080Ti could crunch more than 2100 WU per day
At around 60 credit per WU (thanks to Credit Screw) it produces a little more than 120 K credits per day.

That's is a little more than 2X a 1070 using less than 30% more power. Amazing!

Except lately Credit screw is giving about 1 credit for 1 second of work (or less, actually starting to see that) so cut that 120K by 20%

If you look Vyper's latests validated tasks in most of them, Credit Screw is paying around 60 credits for about 40 secs of work at least for the blc12 WUs.

Maybe the 2080Ti bugs a little more the Random number generator called Credit Screw! LOL

Ian called my attention the fact that my 2080 is not running any faster than my 1080Ti. If this holds true for the long while, then the value proposition of the 2080 is not so good. But considering I paid over $1000 for my 1080Ti Hydro Copper during the height of the mining craze and that I paid similar for the 2080 Hydro Copper, I don't think that the value proposition is so out of whack.

But considering that 1080Ti's are getting as rare as hen's teeth, plus the fact that EVGA does not offer the Pascal Hydro Copper water block anymore, my decision to go with the 2080 and its Hydro Copper block is a valid choice.

yeah still a great card. and since watercooling is important to your use case, it's a solid choice.

It will be interesting if anyone releases some watercooling solutions for the RTX 2070 cards. I have the EVGA RTX 2070 Black, which i believe shares the same "short" reference 2070 PCB. a waterblock on this card would make it kind of a "mini". what i like best about this card is that with the stock 175W TDP and only a max TDP of 200W, it only needs a single 8-pin power connection.

I was surprised to pull up nvidia-smi and notice that the 2080 shows only 225W max TDP compared to the 250W of the 1080Ti. It is pulling less in compute also compared to the 1080Ti.

I can understand new gtx 1080 Ti's getting rare. And Hydro Copper blocks. But if you add in 500+ used 1080Ti's on ebay, and if they are reliable then maybe the supply isn't completely gone :)

yeah you can still get them, but the used price has gone up since nvidia stopped making them, and they are harder to find new. some people just prefer a new card. but if you stick with EVGA and buy one with warranty left, it's still a good buy.

I wonder if used Gtx 1070's would be a good buy for less than top tier ambitions.

Dont forget that im not using -nobs to take a full core and im limiting the wattage to 185W also.

If im tuning it i perhaps would shave 5 to 6 seconds more but the gpu would pull atleast 100W more and +70W on the cpu if i OC.

Keeping it low on juice at a good perf/w ratio instead. Want the longevity of the card to last :)

keep an eye out on ebay. look for EVGA branded cards. $200-250 would be a good deal.
