Message 1949298 - Posted: 13 Aug 2018, 4:12:43 UTC

New Prometheus seems unable to connect to Einstein@Home to Update the Computer Profile with the new Hardware Specs. Also CANNOT get new Einstein work.

Event Log claims: "8/12/2018 8:52:45 PM | Einstein@Home | Scheduler request failed: HTTP file not found"

Old Prometheus was:

Intel Quad Core Extreme 3GHz
16GB DDR2 A-Tech RAM
TWO EVGA GTX-750TI SC cards on Driver 353.30

BOINC was 7.4.42

OS was, (and still is), Win7 Pro x64 SP-1

Einstein Computer Profile was created in late 2014 and kept contact through to August 2015. THEN was switched to crunching SETI full time through to Feb 2016 when the system was made into a Hackintosh.

New Prometheus:

Intel i7 7700K at 4.2GHz
32GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance RAM
TWO EVGA GTX-1050 cards on Driver 388.13 - "Clean" Installed after getting new hardware running with old OS and Software.

Upgraded BOINC to 7.12.1

OS STILL Win7 Pro x64 SP-1.

----------------------------------------------

I've posted the above in "Cruncher's Corner" at Einstein, but have NOT received a reply, yet. I was hoping for faster assistance here at SETI.

I DID manage to successfully Update SETI-Beta today without issue. Original Computer ID was kept, as the hard drive and OS still have ALL original Project Data in the BOINC Data Folder. ClientState.xml IS intact, and as SETI and SETI-Beta were able to connect and Update, I'm at a loss as to why Einstein is refusing to connect to their Work Servers to Update the Computer Hardware info and get new work.

I even tested the BOINC Project Links within BOINC while the Einstein Project IS selected/highlighted... BOINC properly pulls up in FF new Tabs with the proper Einstein Pages by clicking each Link Button in BOINC... So, again, why would the Einstein Project NOT connect to the Project Servers???

Would a Project Reset be in order to "Refresh" the HTTP Connectivity??? I've never had to do this, and want to make sure I DO NOT lose the existing/original Einstein Computer ID that's currently listed in ClientState.xml. Current ClientState.xml File has the right Computer ID for the Einstein Project and the RPC Count is also correct.

Any help GREATLY appreciated.

Maybe the URL has changed a bit from last time the host contacted Einstein and the master_einstein.phys.uwm.edu.xml file is outdated or missing. That could be the file that is not found or references an old URL.

Could try setting http_debug and seeing what the output tells you.

OK - I found the File you've referenced, here is what is inside - YES it's outdated, it has NOT been Updated since Aug of 2015. I believe it was AFTER that date that the Einstein Project DID change their URL...

How, What, and Where do I change/modify the File below to reflect the correct URL???

<h2>About Einstein@Home</h2>

Thank you for your interest in Einstein@Home!

<p>

Einstein@Home is a World Year of Physics 2005 and an International
Year of Astronomy 2009 project supported by the American Physical
Society (APS) and by a number of international organizations.

</p><p>

Einstein@Home uses your computer's idle time to search for weak
astrophysical signals from spinning neutron stars (also called pulsars)
using data from the LIGO gravitational-wave detectors, the Arecibo radio
telescope, and the Fermi gamma-ray satellite. Einstein@Home volunteers
have already discovered more than three dozens new neutron stars, and we hope
to find many more in the future. Our long-term goal is to make the
first direct detections of gravitational-wave emission from spinning
neutron stars. Gravitational waves were predicted by Albert Einstein
almost a century ago, but have never been directly detected. Such
observations would open up a new window on the universe, and usher
in a new era in astronomy.

<span class=news_content>The URL of the Einstein@Home scheduler was changed. Clients should automatically adjust to that, there is no real need for manual intervention. Until the Clients have recognized that change, you may see &quot;file not found&quot; error messages. The Clients should recognize the new scheduler URL after 10 such failures. If you want to speed things up, you may &quot;update&quot; the project manually a few times to skip the automatic backoff time.<br />

I've not looked recently but...
There was an option to type in the URL at the time of connecting to a project.
Go to the "add a project" tab, and there was a box that allowed you to rattle the keyboard (very frustrating when one entered a messpilling)

Would a Project "Reset" take care of this AND retain the existing/original Host ID for Einstein?

[EDIT:] Or do I perform a Detach and Reattach to keep the Host ID???

I chose to Reset the Project first... This worked!!! :-) I went to my open Tab in FF with my Computer ID and Details and Reloaded the Tab. The new/current Hardware Configuration now is reflected there, AND BOINC Updated, too!!! :-)

Thanks everyone for the details and info. I knew that with the URL change that Einstein made AFTER I created the Hackintosh was preventing the old Prometheus ID and and Info from being Updated. I just wasn't 100% sure how to Update the URL... Thankfully, Project Reset took care of it. :-)
