There are a lot of different symbols associated with my home state of Kentucky, but my favorite is the Northern Cardinal bird. They stay here year-round, and look especially impressive on a snowy winter day.

What is your favorite symbol for where you live?

Wow! That's an eye-popping picture, Carlos. Your state is California, right? I didn't know poppies thrived there.

I would not have guessed the bear was the state animal for California, either. This is very educational.

Is that edible? It amazes me how it grows wild in what looks like a rather dry terrain.

SOUTH Australia's floral emblem - Sturt's Desert Pea - may join marijuana on a banned list of plants under proposed new laws.

I just noticed this was stated in 2011, seems this law never happened as many garden centers sell the seeds or plant..

And here.
The origin of province flowers came from the American idea of state flowers, and was brought to Sweden by August Wickström and Paul Petter Waldenström in 1908.

My favorite pick is of course the white water lily.

Washington has this, it's called Mt. Rainier, it's pretty cool. OBTW there are several more that are almost as big and picturesque.
