Hi. Old returning user here. I joined last millennium, but haven't been back for over a decade. I'm trying to install SETI@Home on my Ubuntu server. It's headless. The BOINC install needs gtk, so that doesn't seem like the right path. How should I proceed? |

I see the installers are out of date & I should use apt... |

You can use apt if you are going to run stock and are not going to fiddle with it. Otherwise the repository version is a huge pain for two reasons: it installs into two folders (which you can't choose) and it also runs as a service. I personally detest it, but unfortunately am stuck with it for the latest CUDA 9 drivers due to the missing dependencies as noted. If you do want a current downloadable one-folder non-service version check the Setting up a Linux machine to crunch CUDA80 for Windows users thread in Number Crunching for info on the "all-in-one" which is a recompile of it with updated libs etc. It's available here |
