What do you think causes it to be so expensive?

From reading the blog on the website, they area a newish brewery, stated in 2015, that is specialising in the "West coast IPA type" beer in smaller volume, they do direct deliveries to customers.

Also I can say it is very good beer, having just finished both cans!! I also cannot afford to drink it very often at that price.

what size cans are they?

440ml standard size for cans bottles are 500ml or stronger beer usually 330ml

I have a 4-pack of Guinness Draught cans(the ones with the little nitrogen widgets in the bottom) in the fridge that I bought for $7.49. Each can is also 440 ml.

The rest of that bourbon warehouse I posted a picture of collapsed yesterday -

I hope that's not the place where they make "Nelson County" bourbon which is my favourite drink.

There's a ton of different bourbons made in that neck of the woods. This particular one is called Very Old Barton.

Thanks Gordon, that's a relief. I would hate my favourite bourbon to go into short supply.

I really should try to develop my taste buds for bourbon, being it's such a big deal here in Kentucky. I like bourbon barrel aged beers, but have never been a real bourbon drinker. I've also toured several of the bourbon distilleries, which are fun. Wild Turkey had the best tour. ~They let us taste the bubbling mash.

Wild Turkey is a premium bourbon here in Oz and is very expensive, about $20 a bottle dearer than Nelson County. I mix my Nelson County with Pepsi Max and it is delicious. I think I was born in the wrong country because I like riding Harleys and drinking bourbon. Not at the same time of course.

G'morning everyone, from a chilly & windy start in the highlands down under.

Well I finally got a cold enough start here to turn the heat on in the brewroom and get that brew done (which I'm in the process of doing now).

Once that's done it should be pretty close to Sunday Beer O'clock.

[edit] I make a pretty good bourbon here also, but I prefer naval type dark rum.

Cheers.

G'morning everyone, from another cool start in the highlands down under.

As another busy week nears its end it looks like I should have an easy day today just pottering about doing my own things for a change.

Anyhow, it's time for another coffee.

Cheers.

G'morning everyone, from a typical winter start in the highlands down under.

Well that brew that I put down last Sunday will be ready to bottle tomorrow and it will certainly be cool enough to make good use of the heat that that process will generate.

Anyhow, now that the frost is mostly gone and the sun is shining, it's time to get a few things done outside before Beer O'clock gets here.

Cheers.

Hello Wiggo, and everyone in Beerland.

Pretty quiet night at home - which is the way I like it. No beer, though, but I might look for something interesting tomorrow. I'm making a note to myself to remember to look for Toohey's.

Gordon, what we get here as Tooheys New is probably labeled as Tooheys Lager over there. ;-)

Well I got that brew bottled yesterday, which warmed the place up, and I'll be putting another brew down very shortly to make use of the heat again.

Cheers.

I keep meaning to ask if you have ever seen a UK beer called Samuel Smiths I discovered their nut brown ale many years ago and they also make a nice porter and two "stouts".

I ask this because back in 2013 I was in the USA and hired a car to travel around New England and I stopped at a store in Yarmouth Mass, and found this display (not too clear but it was an iPhone pic quickly taken)

If you see any of their beers I highly recommend them.

1 caught my eye there in that pic Bernie, Organic Chocolate Stout, is there really chocolate in it?

I've never heard of the brand myself, but that doesn't mean that it can't be had here.

I hope Grant enjoyed the celebration that was had here yesterday, we did very well after I put that other brew down. :-D

Cheers.

Well I have never tried that one myself, but here is the description from the website.

Organic Chocolate Stout
Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard water is drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic chocolate malt and organic cocoa impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish – this is the perfect marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate.

5% ABV

Best served at about 51°F (11°C).

Ingredients; water, organic malted barley, organic cane sugar, yeast, organic hops, organic cocoa extract, carbon dioxide.

So yes it appears so!!

I just got home from Sergio's World of Beers, and I'm happy to report back a successful mission. If you all remember a couple months ago, I went to Sergio's for the first time, and was really turned off by the bartender, who seemed totally disinterested in helping me. I drank an expensive draft and left. This time, however, I luckily was greeted by the owner, Sergio, and he was very nice. He asked me what I was interested in, and showed me where it was(the place is a labyrinthic old building filled with coolers and old refrigerators stocked with beers Sergio handpicks). He led me to a couple coolers in the very back where there were English ales and such. Bernie, I saw a whole shelf of Samuel Smith's, just like your picture. I took the two stouts on the end home with me. I asked Sergio about Toohey's, and he said he used to carry it, but he's always adding new beers, and he took me to a refrigerator of nothing but Australian beer. Next time I'm in, I will bring my camera and take a picture of that for you, Wiggo.

He wanted me to stay and have something on draft, but I told him I just wanted to get a couple bottles to take home. I could tell he's a colorful character. He told me he just got back from Australia, actually. He's originally from Brazil, he said, but he has an Australian-sounding accent.

These are the two I brought home, on my kitchen counter. I'll put them in the fridge for later.

p.s. Bernie, I paid cash. They don't take cards.

Gordon.

That sounds like the kind of place I would like!!

Also interesting that Samuel Smiths seems to have a following in the USA. Weirdly I have never found that variety of Samuel Smith beers here in the UK.

Places I have found it usually have just a couple of different choices.

I will be interested to see what you think. Neither of those should be served really cold.

The chocolate stout says "Best served at about 51°F (11°C)." And the Imperial Stout "Best served at about 59°F(15°C.)"

Yes, you're right. I'll let them warm up a bit before I pour them. I think the reason bad cheap beer is served ice cold is to numb the tongue.
