I re-installed with both SSD's installed, I wanted the boot manager properly installed so I do not have to keep going into the bios to change boot drives, If I can get on with it I will keep it, if not then I will switch to either Mate or Cinnamon. Having trouble with Nvidia 396, its showing in software update but will not install, am running on 390, have fired up Boinc not installed seti because 390 is missing OpenCL. Kevin |

Not sure of the issue you are having with 396. 390 will work as well. You will have to use the Synaptic Package Manager to grab the: libnvidia-common-390 libnvidia-compute-390 libnvidia-decode-390 libnvidia-encode-390 libnvidia-gl-390 libnvidia-ifr1-390 libxnvctrl0 nvidia-compute-utils-390 nvidia-dkms-390 nvidia-driver-390 nvidia-kernel-common-390 nvidia-kernel-source-390 nvidia-modprobe nvidia-profiler nvidia-utils-390 nvidia-visual-profiler libcuda1-390 nvidia-libopencl1-390 nvidia-opencl-icd-390 xserver-xorg-video-nvidia-390 Basically anything with 390 in its name from the Synaptic Package Manager. Oh dear that looks fun:-( I backed off to the default drivers, restarted and managed to install the 396 but still no OpenCL I will try for that lot with 396 and see how it goes. Kevin |

The 396 meta package should pull all that stuff in automatically. Most important is the opencl-icd-396 driver and the libcuda-1 driver. If you are just caring about the special app, then just the cuda driver is necessary. Good to hear Kevin, I see the new Linux host in your computers. Will take a look at the first gpu task reported and see how it fares. With that 1080Ti and the <-nobs> no blocking sync option on, it should do a BLC task in around 75 seconds or less. Arecibo standard AR's in around 90 seconds. Arecibo VLAR's in around 3 minutes. Did you go with the SSE41 cpu app? Did you see that there was a AMD version directory in the CUDA 9 special app distribution? TBar compiled the r3711 SSE41 app for both Intel and AMD architectures. Yes, I like Linux. I like being able to control how I want the OS configured and have multiple choices and options, and not have some megalithic company dictate their choices on me. I unziped the boinc 7 then copied in the Cuda90 files, the only other files that I made was cc_config in boinc folder and app_config in seti. It is running cuda90 on GPU's and V8 8.00 on CPU's. Get it running first, fine tuning later. Going to have to switch it back to W10 for a while, got both Seti and Einstein WU's that need to be processed in the near future. Kevin |

The Logitech mouse and keyboard work as normal but the more advanced features controlled by software are not available in Linux, tis a pity that copy-paste between machines is very handy. Kevin |

Everything looks good. Can't tell about the cpu runtimes with that overflow task. Will have to wait for others. What do you have for any core limitation? Do you have all 32 cores trying to run a cpu task? Usually better to pull back the concurrent task count so that the cpu tasks don't get too overloaded. I like to keep cpu_time versus run_time approximately equal. You can put that into the app_config.xml file. Shoot for 60-75% cpu utilization. I would suggest getting the GKrellm monitor from the Package Manager. That provides me with a quickly realized system state with the cores running and the cpu and gpu temps along with the fan speeds. You will need to get the lm-sensors package for the ability to read the SIO chip on your motherboard. Likely in the ITE-8665 family. That is handled by the it87 driver. The 18.04 distribution ships with the k10temp driver already installed and reporting the cpu core temp. There is a newer k10temp driver that reports the Tdie and Tctl temps. The Tdie temp reports the real cpu core temp after deducting the +27° C. offset that AMD builds into TR. First WU's have started validating. For a standard AR Arecibo task Task 6713309632 running at 4 Ghz and having equal run_time and cpu_time, I can't explain why this task took 90 minutes to finish. I do a standard 0.42-0.44 AR Arecibo task in 51-65 minutes at the same 4 Ghz. What speed memory does your TR system use? [Edit] I see the gpu tasks running without the -nobs option. The times still look very good. With that many cores you might get away with not using it. Still would like to see gpu completion times with it on for comparison to using the blocking sync. Boinc manager CPU usage set at 92% gives 29 WU's, normally 25 CPU + 4 GPU. In W10 I was getting MB WU's in 90 min and GPT WU in 65 min. 4 x 8 GB 3200 Samsung B die running at 3334 MHz. I just let it run with the settings that were already set in the download. My computer software skills are very basic, most of them settings are way above my skills level. Kevin |

I don't know, maybe the way you have memory access set up in the BIOS? The numbers I posted were for my 1800X running at 3.975Ghz with 3200Mhz CL14 memory. Your 3333Mhz should do equivalent unless you are running stock XMP. What exactly is the memory kit? If it is made with Samsung B-dies, you can tighten up the memory timings a lot with just the primary timings. Say moving from CAS 16 down to CAS14. The Ryzen memory calculator is a handy tool. Only runs in Windows though but you have Windows systems so you can just plunk in the kit parameters and crank out the settings. The tool doesn't have to be run on the system you are calculating the timings for. Ryzen DRAM Calculator 1.1.0 Beta 2 (overclocking DRAM on AM4) The Ryzen Timing Checker DOES have to be run on the tested system though. But it prints out a nice synopsis of main and most important parameters. Ryzen Timing Checker 1.04 Plus I think you have the ROG Zenith Extreme mobo so you should . . . . have The Stilts memory presets in the BIOS to overclock the memory. That is what I did for the ROG Crosshair VII Hero mobos and the 2700X systems. I just chose The Stilt's B-die single sided 3466 CL14 preset and boom, the memory is running at 3466Mhz with tight CL14 timings. That lets the gpu task use a full cpu core. You should give that a try at some time. [Edit] I just took another look at your completed cpu tasks. The Arecibo ones are looking a lot better and closer to what I am accustomed to seeing. The BLC tasks should be down in the 30 minute range. That first one was an outlier or something. OK. I can see why it failed. The Team Group memory has lots of issues in the memory overclock threads. Nobody matching the timings of the G. Skill memory with Team Group. As I said in my edit, the later cpu tasks were completing in more normal times compared to the first. I would just let them run for a bit and make no changes for now. Oh so it was not all my fault:-) Most of my overclocking experience dates back to the time when you moved jumpers on the motherboard. I just ordered a new case and another radiator for the custom loop system. I decided I would put to good use the Amazon Chase cashback bucks from the Ryzen+ upgrades. I have been unhappy with the cpu temps and the loop temps with both the cpu and 1080Ti on the same loop. I figured adding another 360mm radiator to the loop will solve that issue. The new Thermaltake X5 case will fit it all and still fit on the table the system sits on. I have been very happy with the Thermaltake X9 case for the Intel system so figured the slightly smaller X5 case would be a good fit too.
