Australian police respond to spider death threats
According to police, a passerby raised the alarm after hearing a "screaming" toddler and a man repeatedly shouting "Why don't you die?"

But after arriving at a home in suburban Perth, they found the man had merely been trying to kill a spider.

In a tweet, police said there had been no injuries during the incident - "except to spider."

I'm sure I could hold still with a tarantula crawling on my face/head, but I'm also sure I could not qualify as a Royal Marine.

'Spiders raining' in Brazil leave student who filmed phenomenon "stunned and scared"

What the hey.. It will be raining frogs next.

I think I would be happier with frogs than spiders.

The thing that amazes me is that only spiders were caught up in the gust of wind or weather anomaly?

I hate spiders (near me) so this would be my worst nightmare.

Think I will be closing my windows and vacuuming every corner of my bedroom tonight.

Thanks Suzie-Q ;o) <eek>

I had a dream last night that included an appearance by that newly-rediscovered giant bee. I had to kill it. In real life I would never kill it. I'd capture it and release it.

Another spider story, the title says it all.

Ten remarkable caterpillars and what they become

Interesting to see how many caterpillars are quite similar to the moth or butterfly they become, while others have no resemblance to their final form at all.

Drunk on smoke: Notre Dame's bees survive cathedral blaze
YAY!!

And here the bee hives are. On the roof of Notre Dame and Tour d'Argent.

Tour d'Argent is a restaurant located quite close to Notre Dame and they use the bee's honey in their cooking:)

Bees are quite resilient little creatures.

My loft bees woke up at the end of Feb and have been flitting around since in gradually increasing numbers of bumbles and drones. (Bumbles first.)

In the last couple of years the temperature of the area they have placed themselves in (close to the stone roof tiles) at the hottest point in summer must have reached 40++ deg C and be pretty toasty and humid.

I know it was hot for them as I could see the drones holding on the edge of the holes they use in the flashing below the guttering fanning air into the hive. I could hear the hum from inside my home with the windows closed.

Quite a few of the drones died from exhaustion as they fell to the ground.

I did help out by putting an electric fan outside pointing towards their hole.

This year I will be cutting another hole for them.

I am amazed however that they could survive a major blaze but then many of the drones and bumbles may of been away from the hive and able to come back one by one and do whatever they do.

Maybe the structure of the hive protected some of the lava.

Even if the Queen died insect chemical signals would probably convert several grubs to a new queen (layer)??

Insects.. Fascinating even if horrid.

(We are not so different really.)

So why are mosquitoes attracted to you?!

The most annoying sound is of course first hearing them and suddenly they stop...
