A continuation of the arachnid theme (family Ctenizidae) Number 16 - the world's oldest (known) spider, dead at 43. Suspected wasp sting.

"To our knowledge this is the oldest spider ever recorded," study lead author Leanda Mason, a doctoral candidate at the School of Molecular and Life Sciences at Curtin University in Perth, Australia, said in a statement.

"Her significant life has allowed us to further investigate the trapdoor spider’s behaviour and population dynamics," Mason added.

Short video: Wolf spider has a happy Mother’s Day with dozens of babies on her back

We have many wolf spiders in this area. I've found them with babies on their back and pre-babies, carrying the egg sack around. I managed to get pix. Since you can see it in the video, I won't post my pix.

I did not know that a mantis was a hummingbird predator. So check the hummingbird feeding stations regularly for them.

TRUE - Has been documented as recently as 1 year ago in National Geographic article:
Praying Mantis Devours Hummingbird in Shocking Photo
The rare photograph reveals a grisly backyard scene—and the intense appetite of mantises.
--- snip ---
Nibbling on one hummingbird clearly wasn’t enough for the ravenous mantis. “After this shot, the mantis dropped the bird, crawled across the underside of the plastic feeder, came up on the other side and prepared to nab another hummer,” Vaughan wrote in a June 4 Facebook comment describing the photograph.

Mantises are surprisingly ferocious insects; scientists have previously seen them attacking and feasting on a variety of hummingbird species. Although it has happened before, it is rarely caught on camera. “It was probably what we would call a lucky shot,” says Kevin McGowan, an ornithologist at the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology in Ithaca, NY.

put it down like your dusting.
put it in under draws fridge and stove and the best part is it doesn't go bad.

Anyone here willing to be the fist one to try this?
Is cockroach milk back as a superfood trend?
Pacific cockroaches possess protein-rich crystals that lactate to feed their young. Packed with fats, sugars and all the essential amino acids you need, this cockroach milk is better for you than it sounds.

Should I kill spiders in my home? An entomologist explains why not to
I know it may be hard to convince you, but let me try: Don’t kill the next spider you see in your home.

Why? Because spiders are an important part of nature and our indoor ecosystem – as well as being fellow organisms in their own right.

Found: The World’s Oldest Footprints, Made by Ancient Bugs
Scientists recently uncovered 540-million-year-old bug tracks. These surpassed the oldest fossilized footprints ever found by 10 million years.

Thanks for this. Our youngest has been charmed and now has an activity planned for us tomorrow.

Propylene glycol is used as a lure in insect traps and is a component in some inks. So will one follow a line drawn with crayon? Only time will tell. ;-)

Came across this a few days ago. Honey bees zero in on the empty set

A lighter version can be found here Bees understand nothing

A pleasant weekend is wished to all.

Reply: Since zero is a number it does not comprise the empty set.

In Set Builder Notation {x| x=0} or if you like simply {0} so you see that the set is not empty.

the solution to , say, 3x =2x would have no solution and therefore the solution would be the empty set.

How about some Arachnids?
