You submitted a lot of good captions for this image, so the winners will be picked by popular vote.

- Votes are kept secret until the end.
- Enter your SETI@home name. Registration is NOT required.
- You can and should vote for all the captions you like, including your own.
- Inviting your 1,326 members' team to vote is verboten.
- SETI or SETI@home related submissions automatically receive an additional vote.
- In case of a tie-break, I'll make the final call.

What is he explaining to his team mates ?

The deadline for voting: APRIL 8, 00:15 UTC

...Not the thread owner, but I refer you to the first post on the thread, which are a summary of the group rules...

(hint: use the "oldest first" option, switch to page 1, once the rules are read, you can return to however you had that setting...)

The person who posts the picture is the one that selects the 3 winners..

Message 1928570 - Posted: 7 Apr 2018, 9:59:47 UTC - in response to Message 1928548.

Reprise of the rules:

Rules of the game:

Winner posts a new picture, waits 24 hours...

After the 24 hours, he/she counts the number of captions, if the sum is less than ten, he/she waits another 24...

After ten captions or NO LATER THAN 48 hours, the winner of the last round declares the winner of the current round - whatever caption strikes him/her as funniest: he/she also picks a second and third place (more on that below.)

The winner of the round has 24 hours to post another picture to be captioned; if no picture within the 24 hours, (or notice posted by the winner that he/she is looking...) then second place is up, who also has 24 hours...

During breaks in the action, (between a winner being declared and the next picture posted) general discussion may take place... Moderators should be aware that a picture posting may cross with a "general discussion" type posting.

(When considering run times above please take note of Tuesday's outage, and any other long communications blackouts.)

I am the thread owner, and I would agree that we should stay with the rules previously stated and used for this contest.
The polling site referred to is an interesting idea, and might be used for other questions, but not for this caption contest.

Damned newbies; thanks for keeping an eye on 'em ! =:)

So without further ado, stick stirrings and majority tyrannies' protests, here are (my thanks to the many unmentioned submissioners and the guffaws they provoqued), here are the (imho) winners :

3rd place: "We used to use aluminum foil beanies but these work better." (betreger)
for the humor and original idea aiming to improve SETI research

2nd place: "You need to dream big, I mean really big." (Carlos)
for its gaudy but universalist humor

... and 1rst place goes to ...

"And when we see a 2nd triplet at a location, Eric, you down the shot. Matt, you've got the 2nd pulse, & I'll do the 2nd
Gaussian.
" (KWSN THE Holy Hand Grenade!)
for the nice SETI@home drinking game suggestion and wink to project scientists Eric K. and Matt L.

PM on its way ! Ni !

"He" noticed at first but disregarded it because you had the time to make a submission in spite of travelling, and 2nd & 3rd place winners would gladly have taken over anyway. I hope "he" didn't act too rudely.
