Greetings,

Has there been a new setting added to our account settings page?

I have tried 4 or 5 external links, on different fora here, and nothing. The websites don't show up. Nothing happens, sorta like clicking on plain text instead of a link.

I just tested external links on a different website and they work. They just don't work here at SETI, for me anyway.

Perhaps SETI@Home has disabled external links somehow, if that's even at all possible?

Here's hopin'. :)

They seem to be working normally from some posts I made yesterday in the Cafe.
Problem on your end somehow?

Hi Mark,

I don't know. As I mentioned, external links work for me on other websites. They were working for me here just a few days ago. I made no changes to this PC or Firefox.

I checked my settings here and there's no option for turning links off, if that's even at all possible.

I'm gonna go back in and see if they work after being out of the specific fora for a while.

Thanks Mark. :)

Siran

[edit] I went into the Cafe and tried some links and nothing. And what the frak is that news cast that comes on when I got there? [/edit]

I have just tried 12 different links in the Cafe and all worked perfectly

And as to the

. And what the frak is that news cast that comes on when I got there?

I have to ask "What newscast?"

It would seem that perhaps your browser has a problem.

Update:
I have just tried the same links from a different PC on Firefox and once again no problems and no "newscast"

Hi Bernie,

Ok, so you're saying that my particular Firefox, which was updated just a few days ago, is singling out this website to prevent me from going to externally linked sites?

I can click external links on other websites with no problem, even external links on my own website.

Just on the off chance that it IS my Firefox that is singled out, I am going to restart it after I am done with this post.

As for the newscast, it might have been when I went into the Cafe and clicked on the NFL "something-or-other" thread started by Mark the Kitty man, I think. I will check that after the restart as well and make note of where it is if I hear it again.

Siran

[edit] fixed a spelling error [/edit]

[edit2] Ok, perhaps there was something flaky about Firefox. I restarted after waiting about a minute, and came back here. I went to the Intel flaw thread and the links work. I went into the Cafe and into the 2 threads there that I entered to test links and no longer hear the newscast. I really haven't much liked this new version of Firefox because of the excessive RAM gobbling it does. But, I hate Chrome and don't like any of the other browsers and have always used Firefox from the beginning and will stay with it no matter what. [/edit2]

[edit3] We can no longer edit the title of our own threads? Or is there a new way of doing it? Regardless, this thread can be locked from further use. Problem solved. Thank you. :) [/edit3]

As I don't use Firefox, I have just checked and updated my main PC and my old laptop. The PC is now running Firefox ESR (Whatever that is) version 52.6.0

My laptop is running Firefox Quantum (whatever that is) Version 58.0.2

On both machines all the links I have tried here work fine.

I actually have no idea what the problem is, but if two different versions of Firefox and of course Chrome, work fine I just suspect that it is not SETI@Home that is the problem'

If any of the 60 odd people who have viewed this thread are having a problem could they please let us know.

Hi Bernie,

Firefox Quantum is their newest version and 58.0.2 is the latest updated version. I have no idea why this website was singled out for non-clickable links. The links work after I restarted Firefox. Go figure... :|

No problems here...

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR COMPUTER AND OR WEB BROWSER(S) MIGHT HAVE BEEN HIJACKED WITH A COMPUTER VIRUS / MALWARE.

Time to reboot that PC into SAFE MODE with NO Network and and do a thorough/complete disk scan with your Anti-Virus software

It would help if we knew which links weren't working that way others could tr them thus demonstrating either a "local" or "global" problem.

Greetings,

None of the external links posted HERE, in these fora by users, worked, none. And, I tried several in a few different threads to make sure that the links were not created improperly.

The problem has since been resolved; Firefox flaked out on me. After a restart of Firefox, the links all worked. My only question, remaining unsolved, is why ONLY SETI was affected. I could click external links all day long on other websites and they all worked. I should probably not be concerned with that anymore either.

This issue has been resolved. And, it had nothing to do with any virus, malware, hackware, spookware or any other kind of ware.

If I could edit the title of this thread, I would change it to " - RESOLVED". But it seems that capability no longer is an option.

Siran

[edit] Well, I'll be a Vulcan's u.n.c.l.e.! I can now edit the title. Perhaps that was a kludge with Firefox too. ;) [/edit]

Go to the first post. The one who open the thread. There you (the one who start the thread) and only you (maybe the mods could do that too but that i don't know) could edit and change the Title.

It's not on the first post. Everyone can edit the title of their own thread by making a new post to the thread and then editing that post. Only on the edit is the option there to change the title. Doesn't need a Firefox kludge. :)

Yep, Jord, I forgot about the fact that it has to be a new post and not a reply, duh! ;)

Try clearing cache, history, prefetch and temp files, if that don't work do a system restore to the last known working point..Old cookies could be the issue!
