New data should last 'til tomorrow sometime. Hopefully more is on the way during the night. Kinda wondering if they used a cloud drive method again to get what just showed up tonight. ~Chris ![]() |

New data should last 'til tomorrow sometime. Hopefully more is on the way during the night. Kinda wondering if they used a cloud drive method again to get what just showed up tonight. I have a hunch that is the case. If the comms issue was resolved, I think it likely that the front page would have announced so. I have been checking the Internet down detectors since this problem has occurred. A LOT of big ISP's and websites have reported large numbers of Internet connection complaints. I wonder if there has been some sort of mass attack on the Internet backbones. If that is really what has happened, it could possibly have bled over to the Internet2 connection between Green Bank and Berkeley. my donkey is fat do a traceroute to your connection and code the route so your visible hops between the two machines appear closer together free's up lotsa bandwidth and decreases connection latency eyeeehoghw |

I am leaving my server in the limit to complete the demands, I have also noticed a certain bottleneck in sending the packages. My server is in Brazil. |

I also notice for about 2 weeks that more computer power is taken than where I've set. Is this problem known? sorry for my bad English |

It turns out that using Google Cloud as an intermediary is more expensive than we thought. It's costing us about $100/TB. We can only do a TB every couple of days because Breakthrough needs 10 TB/day for their own stuff. Anyone have a 10GB link to the commodity internet that they'd let us build a tunnel through? Lighting a fire under the people who run the networks between here and GBT is proving difficult. There seem to be problem getting to other internet2 nodes in WV, so the problem may be on that side. ![]() ![]() |

Thank you for the update, Eric. And best of luck getting cooperation from the IT people further down the pipe. "The secret o' life is enjoying the passage of time." 1977, James Taylor "With cats." 2018, kittyman ![]() |

It sounds like my hosting site would handle the traffic ok, but I got referred to their 'Terms of Service'. Some related snippets: - Customers are not allowed to use their hosting accounts as a remote storage server only or solely for the purpose of sharing (un)archived images, programs or sound files. - At least 80% of all files and/or total megabytes used (including MP3, WAV, RA, GIF, JPG, ZIP, RAR, but not limited to these file types) in each hosting account must be a part of actual, active website(s) content, i.e. all content files must have corresponding HTML or PHP files that link to them. - The term “UNLIMITED” is used to describe the amount of resources in the web hosting plans provided by 50Webs Web Hosting, which is not set to a predefined limit value (for example - unlimited bandwidth, unlimited disk space, unlimited emails or other unlimited resources). - Upon request, each Customer must be able to prove that a given file is a constituent part of an actual page and not only stored on the server within 24 hours of the request. If the client fails to react within 24 hours after the request and does not remove the file/files in question, or if the apportioned traffic quota continues to be used for such purposes - the Provider reserves the right to suspend the account and/or to remove the aforesaid content from the server. - In all cases, when a service is listed as “Unlimited“, it is intended for normal web hosting usage only - all activities, which may result in excessive resource usage inconsistent with regular usage patterns, are prohibited. That really squashes the plan :( It was worth a try anyways. Now I know they have a 100Mbps/connection limit though. ![]() |

Hi Keith, Thank you for posting that link. Here is my go-to site for the status of the Internet: https://www.akamai.com/us/en/solutions/intelligent-platform/visualizing-akamai/real-time-web-monitor.jsp It looks like they agree pretty well, and it looks like the East Coast of the USA is definitely under some stress right now. Hope this all gets sorted out soon and I hope it isn't impacting anything really serious like police/fire/ambulance services. Regards, Kellen |

Hi Kellen, interesting that Virginia at 2.2% is pretty high up the list in attacks. Another good resource you have provided. Thanks. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours ![]() ![]() |

According to that site, most of Europe, India, Japan, South Korea and Australia are under attack? Sweden, Brazil the Western, Central and Northeast USA, China and Russia are also to a lesser degree? Who could mount such a massive attack? Steve Gaber Oldsmar, FL |
