Hi all. It`s been awhile since crunching. I forgot everything I learnt in the past. Like to restart Seti again. But all I have installed so far is the Boinc software. With this new setup[i7-8700K,M.2 ssd, and Asus Prime Z370-A (onboard video being used)] I`m confused where to start. What optimized files to use(Lunatics I`m guessing), and the setup for those. I want to utilize this new build as best as it could do. Right now it`s running at stock overclocking(4.7Ghz vs. 3.7Ghz), with 16GB of ram. TIA for any guidance. scruff35(PC Perspective team) |

Best bet is to look at adding a dedicated graphics card. Onboard Graphic suffer from trying to do 2 things at once, crunching and displaying information. GPUs are much, much better at crunching the data than are CPUs |

Thanks for the reply. I thought about going with a 1060 GPU, as the wife will not be happy if I spent the extra on a 1070. Now the tricky part......getting the wife onboard. Will repost to this thread once I upgrade. Thanks again. |

Wife`s allways has a lot more important things to buy besides GPUs, a new pair of shoes, the latest makeup, etc. I know that for sure. Don`t worry that`s normal. LOL Back to topic. Until you install a dedicated GPU the best thing you could do in your host is to install the Lunatics app and choose to crunch in your CPU only . Do not use the internal GPU to crunch, it`s slow everything . After you do that, you could make some adjusts in the way the computer will work, how many cores you will allow to crunch, when it will crunch etc. Here we have a lot of crunchers who could help you do that just say the word. |
