Being as it's Wed evening, I thought I'd pop into EVGA's site and see what meager offerings they might have available, and there is actually something above a 1030! Not much above, a smattering of 1050's and one 1060 that is priced at $360. Dang, they sure have gone up at MSPR over the last 6 months or so, haven't they? Not sure if anyone's interested in anything that low end, and I'm pretty sure it won't last long, but there you have it. |

They have a 6696 1080Ti right now if you hurry :) |

The EVGA 3GB 1060 I bought for $189 10 mos ago was a good deal, IMO, the Gigabyte one I bought for $235 last July was an OK deal, $360 does not interest me. |

Snagged the final Hybrid card I needed for my crunchers from eBay this week. The 1080Ti Hydro Copper showed up today. Ordered more fittings to replumb everything. I can see how the comment that custom loops are expensive to build is very true. I have spent at least a quarter of the cost of a single Hybrid card in G 1/4 fittings so far. So when did power supplies become so scarce as well as outrageously priced? Blame the crypto miners too I guess. Need another P/S for the new workstation build and nothing available at Amazon or Newegg for less than $500. I bought my last EVGA 1000 GQ for $140 in October. I lost out on the same previously used for mining P/S at eBay earlier for $160. Looked at EVGA website and bought the SuperNova G2 1000W for $239 and got to use my EVGA bucks (thanks Brent) to take $14 off the MSRP list price. Only two available SKU's at EVGA. Every other high wattage P/S set to 'Auto Notify' only. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Did you at least ask about an EVGA toaster for my Birthday? :D |

Yeah, those little G1/4 and adapter fittings are not cheap. I got a boatload of them here, as I am going to rework the cooling loop on my new rig soon. I am sure I'll have a bunch left over, but I wanted to be able to take it apart and not worry about having the right fittings on hand to put it together the way I want it. They add up quickly. I got a special order Aquacomputer waterblock, and the thing is absolutely fantastic. Gained about 3c over the XSPC Raystorm Pro I was using, and that's a good block to begin with. I am changing from a single pump loop to a dual D5 series loop, as the flow through the Aquacomputer block is just slightly more restrictive and I wanna bump up the flow rate a bit. Meowmeowmeow! Thanks for the product review kittyman. Good to know of other good units comparable to the XSPC Raystorm Pro. Yep, every G1/4 connector is $4-$6 apiece. Every component needs two. The more complex your loop is with the number of components, the cost adds up quickly. I will have all the pieces in place tomorrow for the wholesale farm upgrade. Cards are getting moved or added to each machine other than the Linux cruncher. The custom loop gets torn down and flushed and re-engineered. I thought about building into a bigger case so I can add another radiator but will see if the existing radiator will handle the load or not. If you believe the every component needs 120mm of radiator rule, then my two components won't overwhelm the 360mm radiator. Will have to see if that is the actual case or not and if I am happy with the temps. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

The more complex your loop is with the number of components, the cost adds up quickly. I was very impressed that the Aquacomputer block was superior to the XSPC block. It was much more expensive, and I had to wait a couple of weeks for it to come from Germany. And that was because it was in stock in Germany. A special order non-stock could be a couple of months for them to make it to order. But it was for sure worth the cost and the wait. Best of luck with your build. Hope it goes well for you. Meow! Took a look at Aquacomputer products. Disappointed they don't have a AM4 socket cooler yet. They have a TR4 socket cooler though. I have seen good reports of that cooler in the Threadripper threads I haunt. Thanks for the best wishes. Will be good to know why my loop temperatures have been fine but the cpu temps have been rising. OK, I was looking at AM4 and just saw the placeholder image for each product. So I assumed they didn't have a finalized product shipping yet. Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Curious, can you attribute the 3° C. temp drop simply to the cpu block or was it because of a change in TIM due to the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut that ships with each Aquacomputer block? Seti@Home classic workunits:20,676 CPU time:74,226 hours A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

Thanks only found the original German site in any of my Google searches. You're welcome. I was on about every site that has those blocks whilst I was doing my research. And, if you do wish to order one, please go to Joe at ModMyMods. He is the best vendor I have ever run across. A one-man shop, and he responds to every order and question with the utmost attention. I thought about building into a bigger case so I can add another radiator but will see if the existing radiator will handle the load or not. Or mount the radiator outside of the case so the only air it draws in is at room temperature, not the temperature of the air inside the case. Grant Darwin NT |

It was a struggle getting all the pieces put together and into the case. The Hydro Copper is at the loop temperature of 31° C. The cpu core temps on the other hand are at 66° C. The graphics card is in front of the cpu block. I've always read that it doesn't matter where in the loop any component is since the loop will reach temperature equilibrium at every point. The cpu is up about 3-4 ° C from where it was by itself. I don't know how much the increase to attribute to 'it's a different cpu' to its running at 50 Mhz faster clock than the previous chip. Or maybe I was too stingy with the thermal compound. It was a real juggling chore since I put all the components into the case with all the lines in place and everything filled up. Sure could have used an extra pair of hands. So far I'm happy with the results. The last piece arrived today at 5PM. Why do all my parts show up at the end of the day? UPS even got down the street before I could run after him and scream he delivered somebody else's package and not mine. I was on the phone bitching to UPS about the lousy driver when he showed back up 15 minutes later and gave me my package and took back the other customers. Got the new GTX 1070 Hybrid into the last Windows 7 machine that needed a hybrid card to get the temps under control and actually got it back online before the project came back properly. So that is the last of the cooling fixes I needed. Now will get maybe a couple of months out of the Windows 7 configurations until the new AM4 hardware arrives in April and I switch fully over to Linux.
