I am running all SETI GPU tasks on a Linux box ( an old SUN WS) with a GTX 750 Ti and they all validate. On my Windows 10 PC, a HP desktop, I have a GTX 1050 Ti and it reboots frequently. but GPU tasks validate, exactly as on the SUN WS.

Can someone explain what the hybrid is in those GTX Hybrid versions? Is it hybrid because it has both air- and water cooling, or does it work on both electricity and gas?

Yes it is because there is a connection on the card that allows the user to connect to their home natural gas which greatly reduces the power consumption.

Seriously, It is because the cards are water cooled. The 120mm rad and the AOI cooler keeps the card temps down under 50C.
Do not try to connect to gas :D

Yes they use both air and liquid cooling. Liquid cooling for the graphics processor and the standard squirrel-cage fan from the Founders Edition cards to cool the VRM's and memory.

I prefer hybrids. Easier to be aggressive in my tuning and not have the temps cause throttling of the cards.

My GPU temperatures are 43 C on the GTX 750 Ti running SETI@home and 69 C on the GTX 1050 Ti running Einstein@home. They are not OC and are both air cooled.

I'd be getting very worried if any of my GPU's were getting near that warm and that maybe why you're getting restarts with that computer.

Cheers.

I would love temps like that personally.

I'd look at airflow on that 1050Ti, is the air intake being blocked?? Is it a single fan or dual fan configuration? How do you have the fan curve set? Silent or aggressive?

Don't know brand you have but I think EVGA has 90C as the throttle point for their cards. Still 69C is higher than I like.

My host have 4 GTX 1070 Hybrids they run at 43-53 C range at close to 100% GPU usage. I have no AC and outside temp is at 32C and Up most of the day.

I am getting restarts only with SETI@home GPU tasks, not with Einstein@home GPU tasks. I watch the Maintenance/Reliability window and it always fails whenever I run SETI@home. So I am splitting work, SETI@home on the Linux box, LHC@home on the HP Linux laptop with no graphic board, and Einstein@home on the Windows 10 PC with GTX 1050. So everybody is happy.

I was just thinking about the latest mining craze, and was wondering how long this one will take to peter out? I know that the first one took a few months, was there ever a concensous as to what killed it off the first time, and are the stars aligned in the same manner to do it again? Or have things changed in terms of currency's mined, the current value of whatever currency, or something else? One of those kinda would like to know, but not sure if there is any good answers out there sort of questions.

It will be the same thing this time as last- fear will outweigh greed. Governments banning mining or taxing (in official currency) the mines and/or miners will hasten the onset of fear overriding greed.

Stock exchanges/share markets have little if any connection with economic reality (just look at the last few years & weeks in particular). Economic fundamentals & rational thought play little to no part in them- it's all about speculation & greed. It's just a form of gambling; gambling if the markets will go up, and there are methods for gambling that the markets will go down. Why let reality get in the way of the chance of making a killing? Crypto currencies are no different.

The first mining bubble was killed off by increasing difficulty paying out less and higher electric rates making the profit margin negative. Also, BTC exchange hacks, thefts and prison terms on the early pioneers made an impact. The latest bubble was in 2014 with BTC at $800 and in 2015 BTC had fallen to $200. That is when the huge influx of used cards hit Ebay. This chart and timeline is illustrative.

They're trying hard to get thru their supply 1080s it appears, though there were a couple with the Ti's too. No 1070's at all though sadly. :-/

I am trying like crazy to find the 1070Ti Hybrid. But I suspect the real reason for the shortage of 1070Ti's is there isn't enough reject 1080 chips to warrant a production run of 1070Ti's. Also I see that the 1070Ti Hybrid MSRP at EVGA is now $100 more than the 1080 Hybrid MSRP. I don't care which becomes available first, it just has to be a Hybrid card.

Which makes no sense whatsoever as the 1070TI as slightly slower than then 1080s. Why would you pay more for a slower card? That's just crazy.

I agree. The only thing I can think of is that the miners still prefer the 1070 over the 1080 and EVGA is pricing for what the market will bear.

I just hope my suspicion is that 1070Ti production is hampered by low binning rejects of 1080 chips and that the 1080 Hybrid variants become available first.

The calculations for the next blockchain become more and more difficult, hence why a person alone cannot do it, but instead you need a pool of similarly strong computers. Or a supercomputer, but then not in Russia. The pool will probably increase ever more, until that's unworkable. Perhaps that future pools will be of the supercomputers based on massive amounts of GPUs and other coprocessors, ones that need their own power plant to run.

Thanks to all who explained what the hybrid did. :)
