Even here in Norway, foreign bitcoin miners have emptied the shelves of all cards worth having.
One of the retailers I buy from has actually done what Nvidia suggests, limiting cards to 2 per person for 1060/70/80s.

Steve Burke at Gamers Nexus has given his usual, well explained thoughts on what the industry thinks of the crypto miners. This is actually an update of the original report from 6 months ago and includes some new comments from the OEM's gathered between Xmas and CES.

what-do-manufacturers-think-of-mining-and-gpu-prices

And there is also on the site a new article digging into the recent RAM pricing increase with analysis back to DDR3 and five years ago. He thinks the increase is part of a industry cyclical trend and his graphs seem to support that thesis. The bad news is there is likely no hope for 2018 for any major changes in RAM pricing. The good news is 2019 might see some price decreases if the industry cycle plays out like it has done historically.

He also make a very valid point that the build costs of the OEM graphics board partners has increased by $20-30 dollars alone for the DDR5 RAM components of the boards. This also has contributed to the sky rocketing graphics board prices at retail if you can any product at all, that is.

So, foretelling versus any foreseeing here, Ghia and also the fact that we could be raising ourselves from that of the Middle Ages,
also known as Medieval when it comes to that of society and culture, and for this also that of becoming an intelligent civilization by own means,
in that technology now becomes a substitute, or perhaps replacement, for that of old thinking which could have existed, or being present before,
but now becoming more and less obsolete.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryptocurrency

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_Ages

Rather keying in bit mining here, and more than one result comes back from the search query.

Except for that, I will make it no more of this either for my part.

Gamespot just posted this: PSA: Do NOT Buy A Graphics Card Today (Thanks, Cryptocurrency) in which they compare GPU prices as they are in store in the US at this time, versus what the MSRP is. For instance a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with MSRP $700 going for at minimum $1,350, or an AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 with MSRP $500 , going for at minimum $1,500. The RX Vega 56 is completely sold out everywhere.

I've decided to stop crunching anything on my (AMD RX470) GPU for now, as it's impossible to replace if there's trouble. An old Android phone is running two tasks at a time on my night stand to keep my RAC available.

That's only a few dollars more than they usually cost here in Australia ($1,000-$1,200).

The extra money is going into the pockets of price gouging vendors, rather that into the GPU manufacturers to support further R&D.

Holly Crap, I just did a comparison.
The EVGA 1060 SC cards I bought 3 (oops 4) months ago at Newegg for $250CAD (incl tax) have bidding over $400CAD on eBay now!
My ASUAl Dual 1070. paid $507CARD (inc tax) 14 months ago, eBay $765. Although this card has never came down near that price what I paid for it.

These things appreciate better than antiques :D

It's pretty outrageous. In Oct I bought a Gigabyte GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD on sale for $199. This is the current card price, GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD = $379.99
On Dec 10th I bought an EVGA 03G-P4-6162-KR on sale for $199. The current price is...EVGA 03G-P4-6162-KR = $489.99
The 1050s aren't much different than earlier, it's everything higher that has gone insane.
Unfortunately I have discovered it's even possible to run a 3GB card out of Video memory if you open enough Browser windows. It seems the lowest memory that is safe is 4 GB or higher. I now have the monitor connected to a 1050Ti, which has 4 GB. See if it runs that sucker out of memory.

The only thing I am happy about with this situation is that the miners are getting soaked.
If the cycle swings the other way again, maybe some of us shall get a break.

I have a GTX 750 Ti in a Linux box with a 4 GB RAM and a 1050 Ti in a Windows 10 PC. The 750 never is in error, but the 1050 often reboots the PC when running SETI@home GPU tasks. Maybe its RAM is nor big enough but the PC has a 22 GB RAM, while the Linux box has only 8 GB.

I doubt that there has been any impact on the GPU manufacturers R&D budgets. The R&D product timelines are published for 5 and 10 years out. They are already working on the next two gpu generations past the the current models or the next generation that releases this year. All that cost has already been soaked into the R&D budgets. I would not worry much about how much money the GPU manufacturers make this year or the next couple. Witness their reported revenues and stock prices for the last quarter and the current. Only going up. I am confident that the boards are very happy with the companies performances.

Seems like the only way currently to get any high-end Nvidia hardware. Looks like pretty good deals if you are firmly in the Intel camp and need a new motherboard..

Could always try selling the MoBo on Ebay and recoup some of the cost. That 1 board with a 1070 in the $600s isn't too bad

I thought the same. The 1080's and Ti's are reflecting the third-party seller pricing syndrome.

Just got a notice from Newegg that RX580's are back in stock for $440, only $200 above original MSRP. But they are gone now so the stock lasted for under an hour.

Ditto Denmark. Apparently some russian have asked for 100.000 cards, sounds crazy, don't know if its true.
