The best thing with polytheism rather than monotheism is that you have so many Gods to chose from.

My response, upon reaching my supposed maturity, to those who believe. Is to say "guessing I'm going to hell".

I always have a couple of these handy in my wallet in case I get told I'm going to hell (usually by street preachers, but occasionally not...)

As I say to the Jehovah Witnesses when they come to the front door, "I'm Jewish". Stops any further discussion and they move on.

I do the same thing - only I insert Catholic. It's true, I was raised Catholic, but there's no wall between that and science(at least for me). My friend, however, gets rather sanctimonious, and the worst part about it, is she said to me, "You want to see your mother again, don't you?" She was referring to my lackadaisical agnosticism, and I found her question very offensive. It implies I'm somehow a less valuable person, or I don't love and miss my mother, just because I don't have a dogmatic religious belief system.

Actually the Peter Higgs' God Particle was called God Damn Particle from the beginning according to the scientists working for years to find it.
But it changed later. Most likely to please sensitive people:)

But “God particle”? The name was the invention of Leon Lederman, himself a great physicist, who used it as the title of a popular book in 1993.

Scientists and clerics almost uniformly say they dislike it. Even Peter Higgs said he wished Lederman hadn’t done it. “I have to explain to people it was a joke,” Higgs said in a rare interview with The Guardian in 2007. “I'm an atheist, but I have an uneasy feeling that playing around with names like that could be unnecessarily offensive to people who are religious."
