Time to buy a new smartphone...do you have any advice about buying the most
efficient smartphone for boinc ?
Using my old Moto G 4G, it takes 30-40 hours to complete a wu.

Fom this list :
http://www.trickolla.com/2014/01/top-10-best-gpu-in-mobile-and-tablet.html
it seems Nvidia is selling a Tegra X1 GPU with 256 Cuda cores (maxwell based) (used in the latest Nintendo Switch)
A Tegra X2 based on Pascal and a Xavier based on volta with 512 CUDA cores are expected to see the light in 2018.
But I was unable to find any smartphone using those GPU.

Any advice welcome....

I'd suggest the most important criteria would be ease of use as phone/communications, and still able to run Seti.
Given the cost of a half decent smart phone, and it's computing ability, if it's not going to be used as a phone the money would be much better spent on a barebones PC or NUC system.

I would say get one with at least 4 cores and the highest clocks as possible. Faster clocks are rewarded with fast completion times, just like desktop hardware.

The 4 core Android tablet I just put online is kicking butt on all my other Android devices simply because I am crunching on 2 cores vice 1 and the cores are clocked to 2.2 Ghz.

Hello, fellow crunchers...

I've just bought a brand new phone, HTC U11 Life, running Android 8 (Oreo). Through the HTC Power to Give app, it is trying to run BOINC and SETI@Home. https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=8433117

Anyways, she's a great performer, runs cool and fast, but something is wrong. All the work-units it has tried have had errors, and now it won't download anymore.

So, I'm loving this phone--but maybe, at least until an update, NOT the best phone for SETI! ;-)

Crunch away, everybody!

Finally bought a Samsung A5 2017 running Android 7.0.....8 cores at 1.9 Ghz.
Only 4 are running, smartphone keep cool :)
It takes between 8 and 14 hours to complete a wu, binary v8.00 is faster than v8.01 !

No support for Mali-T830 GPU.
I recommand it ! Great smartphone (get it at 240 euros).

If it quickly recharges, and if the battery is removable/replaceable, I will seriously consider it when comes the time to replace my old 1,3 Ghz Polaroid a4 (dual-core taking 2,7 days to produce a WU lol). I'm happy with their less powerful but reliable Tab E tablet (quad-core 1,9 Ghz 0,8 WU/day (which remains cool when crunching overnight with its case open heh)

Fast charge in 90 minutes. One of the best autonomy...but battery is not easily removable (it's a shame in 2018 !).
