I'd say SETI/BOINC science is a far better way to expend energy, but all energy consumption has multiple costs. The article below puts Bitcoin/Blockchain energy consumption in perspective:

https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/bitcoin-uses-more-energy-than-ireland#gs.dKq=fH8

“…The Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index tracker puts Bitcoin’s current estimated annual energy use at almost 32 terawatt-hours, roughly equivalent to Serbia’s yearly electricity consumption and ahead of at least 159 other countries, including Ireland and most nations in Africa….”
From the site linked in the quote above:
Electricity consumed per transaction (KWh) 237.00
Number of U.S. households that could be powered by Bitcoin 3,015,275
Number of U.S. households powered for 1 day by the electricity consumed for a single transaction 8
Bitcoin's electricity consumption as a percentage of the world's electricity consumption 0.15%
Annual carbon footprint (kt of CO2) [kt == Kilotons] 15,957
Carbon footprint per transaction (kg of CO2) 115.94
..."

It Has Begun! Venezuela Launches National Oil-Backed Cryptocurrency.
https://sputniknews.com/business/201801061060550736-venezuela-maduropetro-launch-emission/
Venezuela is issuing $5.9 billion in petro, its state cryptocurrency, in the hopes that it will drive the country out of economic downfall amid US sanctions. The petro is backed by the country's oil, diamond and gold reserves.

ROFLMAO X 100

And a wheelbarrow full of 'petros' might get you a loaf of bread in downtown Caracas.

If all the Oil, Diamonds and Gold are nationalized, that means they are in Maduro's pocket, and are only as good as his word..................

Again. ROFLMAO.

He is truly MADuro.

America is not blameless when it comes to that country , had you actually traded and bought there oil you would have had cheap oil a long time ago and been able to break OPEC's control and i suspect they would not have gone as far as they have with Socialism .

The policy of engagement with china has opened it up and there are more freedoms there now than before we opened up and started trading .

One day America will learn that trade sanctions only hurt America and force country's to go extreme in there ideas and beliefs

eg: North Korea , Iran , Venezuela all have been under some sort of trade embargo or sanctions and it hasn't changed things but only made them worse

It is also helping terrorist to demonize your country as it looks like your trying to overthrow there country , ergo interfear with it . Time to try a different way as the old way is only making things worse

Forget bitcoin - now Putin wants a cryptorubel
Can a digital currency allow Russia to duck foreign sanctions? In any event, it claims to be one of Putin's economic advisors, and now the rules of the game must be outlined for Kremlin's cryptorubel.

So vacuum, a space entirely devoid of matter, is not a noun as well?

Take a random cubic parsec and you will find matter in it, never mind the virtual particles.

Under the mattress?

The inflation the new tax law will inevitably cause makes that seem to be stupid.
Gold is a good hedge but it's value to me is irrational. Spending billions to dig something out of the ground and refine it to then bury it underground is weird at best.

Right on, brother.

BTW: Wanna bet that if the Venezuelan people had a choice from this day forward. They would never pick a Government Controlled Economic System?
Either of the Koch Brothers could probably be elected president of Venezuela........

Hello update on the Bitcoin world

About now many are getting cold feat a sweats as January has been a bear market for Bitcoin .

For all those new to Bitcoin i would hold on to your coin even if the market continues to be a bear market and drops another 40% .
The market should continue to edge down for at lest the month of Febury and approx March you should see things start to start to settle.
There are many reasons why the market goes down at this time of year . So i would say go to rule one in a bear market buy , buy , buy while it's cheap.

Only a idiot sells in a bear market as you only lose if you sell for less than you paid so don't sell hold or buy and wait

This year will see many hard forks of Bitcoin and if you don't hold Bit coin you will not get the new coins that will come from the forks .

Zec coin is also said to be having a hard fork this year and like Bit coin if your not holding them you will not get any coins credited to you .

As for the nay say'ers i would say you do not understand what money is .
I would also say they do not understand the rules of crypto .

The country's that do not adopt crypto as a form of money will be left behind .

For those that say the Block Chain has no value then i would have you read this article from CoinDesk about one of the so called genius of modern financial world

I gotta say Glenn, you got guts going down with the ship like this.

DPRK is busily changing stolen Bitcoins for US Dollars, and about a billion other thieves are scheming to get the rest.....

.........tulips anyone?
