Oh dear. President Trump's plans for a Veterans Day military parade through the streets of Washington DC have been delayed until at least 2019.

Mr Trump was impressed by France's Bastille Day parade on a visit in 2017 and said the US could "top it".
But figures released on Thursday suggested the event could cost about $90 million (£71m) - more than three times the original estimate.
Well perhaps next year we will see Trump dressed up like this.

Well emulate the French costs compared to the US costs.
But as the saying goes. America is the biggest in the world.
Perhaps even bigger than Russia's parade on their Victory Day.

Wow, I agree with moomin, it does sound like Russia, or China, or Iran, or DPRK, or any other of myriad countries who feel the need to parade around their shiny new tanks/missiles/planes and manpower just for show.

There is a tradition of Military Parades in America, but only to denote an auspicious occasion, end of WW I and II for example, but just to parade to puff your chest out is ludicrous and should be left to amateurs and [edit]poseurs.

I disagree with The President on this one, the money, manpower and other resources could be far better spent.............or, NOVEL IDEA!,.......not spent at all.

VA is a f'in joke. Have a friend who is in need, VA won't treat him unless he has a wife who will bring him and sit with him while they do the treatment. He is single. VA doesn't care. No wife, no treatment. The VA is the death panels the republicans feared with the ACA.

BBC, which I read a couple of times a week to get more than the usual American opinion sites, pretending to be responsible News.

The British Health Care System aka NHS is very much like our Landstinget.Healthcare.
And yes there are many horror stories here as well.
But they apply to all, not only to the poor.

As soon as you put in controls to prevent fraud the horror stories will begin. Any rule is a rule and rules can't foresee every possible case. If there aren't rules then unscrupulous persons can easily steal. The only way to mitigate horror stories is to have a large number of hearing officers so appeals can be heard rapidly before there are bad outcomes. However there will always be some and bad news gets press, good news doesn't. So the 0.01% bad news cases seem like 99.99%

My city has the ludicrous honor of being the site of the biggest waste of taxpayer funds the VA has ever perpetrated. A new hospital to replace the venerable Fitzsimons hospital built in the 1940's.

The initial budget of $350 million seemed reasonable for a regional VA facility to handle the needs of the military and veteran community it services. That budget was overspent by 600%................600%..........$2 Billion is the estimated final bill

Let that sink in for as long as it takes......................then tell me again how the government should be in charge of all American healthcare.

Those who receive treatment and services from the VA are for the most part satisfied and feel they get what they need, but there are horror stories just as there are with Medicare, Medicaid, and the private Insurance run systems. And such stories are also heard in Canada and the UK.

There must be accountability both fiscally and morally in any endeavor that so directly affects a human life. And balancing those two components inevitably will cause clashes, but the taxpayer rape and pillage done by the VA at the Fitzsimons VA is staggering.

And the VERY sad fact is everyone involved is admitting blame BUT NOT RESPONSIBILITY.

..........because that's the guv'ment way...........
