I have a video camera on the front of the house, and the images are automatically uploaded to Weather Underground's website along with my backyard weather station data. Last night, a light freezing precipitation glazed Louisville. My Birch tree bent over like an expert gymnast! Here are three pictures from my camera.

One around 3 am(quite a yoga gesture!) -

Earlier this afternoon(you can see the tree bounced back) -

Just a couple hours ago -

Here's also a timelapse video of the tree bending overnight. Wild to watch -

Really amazing. I have never seen birches behave that like that even though living in a country with lot's of them.
Maybe American birches want to sleep at night:)

It could be that the birches bend because of the snowfall at night.
Maybe heavy wet snow that they cannot support to carry.
That's a theory from here anyway that suggest that.

Well, it was the overnight coating of icy rain that caused mine to lean over, but they're ok, now.

The reason that first picture looks kind of snowy white is because of my video camera's infrared light.

Nice!

I saw an Australian Pink Floyd tribute band many moons ago that was spot on. It's like they were channeling them!

Took this last,..along with quite a few more...at Preston Guildhall.....it's the Aussie Pink Floyd...one of the best, if not the best Floyd tribute bands. They can't be that bad if Dave Gilmour books them for a gig...

You have an eye for this GNU.

From some of your other photos I have wondered whether you should be a photo journalist.

I love the photography in the old Picture Post magazines.

Some Buddhist monks from Tibet visited the Thomas Merton center here in Louisville, last week, to create a mandala representing interfaith world peace.

After a chanting ritual that came before the beginning of the mandala design process, I documented the progress, starting out with just a blank blue board on the floor. They took rulers and compasses and drew out the basic design into which they subsequently started laying down dyed granules of pulverized marble with their special tools. The tools are long metal tubes with varying sized tips and they use a rod to carefully vibrate the grains out onto the surface. The culmination of the mandala is Dissolution, symbolizing the impermanence of life. Here are my pictures:

Beautiful and fascinating. What patience that must take. Oh, and, don't sneeze!

Yes, and they're really a jovial group when not chanting or meditating. They were also quite happy for me to take pictures.

Perhaps they found funny the fact that you were attempting to permanently document a dissolution ceremony symbolizing the impermanence of things  ? Oh, western people ! =:)

Great photographic report, thanks Gordon.

Well, you've got a good point there, Pierre. I hadn't thought of it that way! ;~) They gave me a little bag of the sand to take home with me. I disbursed it in my garden.

The sky's on fire! We have a lot of sunrises like this, but I usually miss most of them.

This is a "panorama" shot. Not sure how it will render here. I guess it will depend on the width of your browser window. If you're using a cell phone, forget about it!!

It just occurred to me that your (UK) sunrises and sunsets are gold. I'm saying this because of a photo I took many years ago. This was taken from the Tower Bridge circa 1990.
