I recently had an MRI scan of my head. MRI scanners produce about 4,000 gauss of magnetic field. My watch was unaffected. They found no bleeding and no brains which explains a lot. :-)

For some males the brain is in another place.

I have heard goats can get to the highest and most treacherous parts of mountains but....
State crews rescue goats stranded on Lawrence County bridge beam
Regardless of how or why they got up there, two goats found stranded on a bridge beam over the Mahoning River in Lawrence County on Tuesday clearly weren't supposed to be there.

Link to photo in article showing the goats

According to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's Facebook post, the goats had escaped from a local farm before apparently seeking shelter from light rain on the 8-inch ledge of a bridge beam on the Beaver Valley Expressway near New Castle.

Once there, it appears they were stuck between the bridge and a 50-foot fall.

State police found them and enlisted the aid of PennDOT and Pennsylvania Turnpike employees to attempt a rescue by crane.

Both goats were rescued and returned safely to where they belong, the Turnpike commission reported.

Dear Friends:

After running SETI for nearly a year this time around, I have recently begun receiving a "Private Message" most days, from BOINC, in broken English, saying, "You my friend, Click Here!" If this is a scam, or an attempted hack, is there anyone in particular who would want to know about it? I envision the KGB swapping our SETI software for something that would help them disrupt the electric grid, or some such. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks!

At the very best you have found a stalker.

So the User name is BOINC? What is their User ID? (if you've got the Status bar turned on for your browser, just putting the mouse over their User name will show their User ID number, no need to click on the name).

The 'User Search' page shows that 32 people have given themselves the user name of boinc, Boinc, or BOINC over the last five years - four of them are BOINC. So we need the specific ID number.

Frankly, I'd ignore them. But if it got too tedious, you could, very carefully:

Click the 'reply' button. That will open up a text editing box, with their message quoted (including the link target).

Copy that text, and save it somewhere safe, along with the ID number of the sender.

Click 'Cancel' on the message page, or simply move to another page - do NOT click 'send'.

Then, send the ID and saved message text to the mods to investigate further.

As a moderator I am quite happy that if you do as Richard describes then send the resulting text to me in a PM.

I will then make sure that the moderators are aware of the issue.

Put your thinking caps on for this one...
Could MIT's AI headset transcribe your future strategy straight from your brain?
Scientists created a computer interface that can pick up on internal verbalizations based on neuromuscular signals in the jaw and face.

*MIT researchers started a project to use tech to transcribe thoughts because they felt there needed to be a more seamless way to use technology.

    * Potential for the concept is boundless, with possible applications in the military, for firefighters, and for people with disabilities.

Researchers at MIT's Media Lab announced the creation of AlterEgo, a computer system that can transcribe the words you say in your head, according to an MIT News report. Using hardware that can detect neuromuscular signals in the jaw and face through electrodes, the system can pick up on things that are "undetectable to the human eye."

The system has tied specific neural signals to certain words, the report said, allowing it to decipher the minuscule physical messages your body sends when you internally verbalize something.

This is for all Star Trek TNG fans!!

Do you wish you could be transported aboard the Enterprise-D?

Take a turbo lift

To perhaps the bridge.

Even visit Jean-Luc Picard in his ready room

Well you now can "virtually". A team are creating the Enterprise-D using the computer game engine Unreal4.

You download the free program and it works just like a 3D computer game where you can explorer the Enterprise-D deck by deck.

It is still a work in progress so a lot of areas are off limits, however places like the main shuttle-bay are impressive.

You can walk round all the shuttles there

The website is here:

http://stage-9.co.uk/

The download is 1.8Gb and it is a "zip" file that will need to be "unzipped" and will "unzip" to 8Gb

It is a graphic intensive program and will need a decent video card, my GTX1060 struggled a bit in some areas.

I will leave you with this shot , anyone guess who's quarters this is.

PS these are all screenshots I took this morning from within the simulation.

I would imagine, even though the bio of Picard is on the screen, that last shot is in Data's quarters as he was involved with Tasha, and that is a holographic memento of her.

Reminds me that there's a place up in New York state that has an original Star Trek set to visit:

Ass-troplastic! Printing parts from p.. er... human waste
Boffins flushed with success as new uses found for cosmic cack

Researchers reckon some smart bacteria and a 3D printer could solve the twin challenges of transporting materials on a journey to Mars and dealing with all the solid waste generated by space-faring humans.

The team from the University of Calgary have devised a process (PDF) called ‘Astroplastic’, which produces polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) from solid lumps of human excreta. PHB, a bioplastic, can then be used to print useful items for astronauts.

NASA has form with 3D printing in space and has shown that tools such as a ratchet wrench can be produced in a matter of hours.

A 3D printer needs material to work with, and the research points the way to a future where astronauts will be able to quite literally do it themselves.

Transport officials seek train surfer who jumped into river.

A video has emerged on social media of a man leaping off a moving train on the Fremantle rail bridge into the Swan River, prompting an investigation by transport officials.

Authorities have confirmed the dangerous train surfing stunt took place on Saturday morning.
Maybe he'll get his Darwin Award next time.

Cheers.
