Lost in translation?
Yesterday I was out eating at a resturant.
Since I was close to a parent and his son about 8 years old I couldn't help to hear their conversation.
The parent spoke English and his son spoke Swedish when they had a dialogue.
Dialogues like:
"Pappa, jag vill ha Sushi"
"Ok, but first get a plate for it"
"Pappa, jag vill ha dessert"
"Yes but eat your Sushis first"
And so on.

Very strange and also very funny:)

Some of My distant relatives do a bit more, they speak French Canadian, and yes English, a smart bunch, Me I've picked up a bit of Spanish, but not enough to be really useful.

My language is influenced by My relatives who settled in Nebraska, then South Dakota, Keystone in fact, My grandpa was born in a log cabin in 1888.

Mulit-lingal families can be very great fun.
I grew up speaking Broad Scotts until I was about seven or eight when I learned English. My brother, four years younger, never really developed Broad Scotts, but speaks English with a strong West London accent, my own accent is more "somewhere North of Birmingham".
But all that pales when compared to our family solicitor's family. He's Australian, from a German background, his wife is Flemish, but speak French and German. Their four children all speak English, (both UK & Australain dialects), French, German, Flemish, and Italian, and each of them speaks at least two other langauges not common to the rest of the family. Meals in their appartment can be very linguistically entertaing as one can well imagine - as guests we are known to play "spot the language".

Hehe:)
Come to think about it.
In Europe all countries are multi-linguage.
For instance Switzerland that speak French, German and Italian.
Belgium that speak French and Flemish.
Even in Britain where some speak "Walesian" and Gaelic:)
And here we actually have 5 official languages!
Finnish, Sami, Romani, Yiddish, and Meänkieli (Tornedal Finnish)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_minority_languages_of_Sweden
Yes. Even Public Service TV broadcast news in Sami language.
Oddasat meaning News in Sami.

Janne you are talking rubbish.

There is no such language as Walesian". The official language of Wales is Welsh which is a member is a member of the Brittonic branch of the Celtic languages. It is spoken natively in Wales, by some in England, Historically, it has also been known in English as "Cambrian" and , "Cymric".

Scottish Gaelic is a Celtic language native to the Gaels of Scotland. A member of the Goidelic branch of the Celtic languages, Scottish Gaelic, like Modern Irish and Manx, developed out of Middle Irish. Most of modern Scotland was once Gaelic-speaking, as evidenced especially by Gaelic-language placenames.

In the 2011 census of Scotland, 57,375 people (1.1% of the Scottish population aged over three years old) reported as able to speak Gaelic, 1,275 fewer than in 2001. The highest percentages of Gaelic speakers were in the Outer Hebrides. Only about half of speakers were fully literate in the language. Scottish Gaelic is an official language of neither the European Union nor the United Kingdom. However, it is classed as an indigenous language under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

I'm not talking rubbish, mr Xenophobian and mr Know it all!!!!!!
I was mentioning"Walesian" within quotation marks because I dont know what it's called.

Glaswegian is not Broad Scotts, it is a dialect somewhere between the Belfast English and the Lowland Scotland dialect, with a we bit of Broad Scotts thrown in.

Full moon is on Dec 3. So it's getting close.
Here is a photo project for you. The high tides on Dec 4 will be a King Tide, the highest of the year. Many photographers will be out on the coast lines documenting the sea levels with photographs. California has made it a state project. I will be at Dana Point. If you can try to document your sea level.

I was mentioning"Walesian" within quotation marks because I dont know what it's called.
The UK has a dedicated TV channel S4C (from the Welsh Sianel Pedwar Cymru, meaning "Channel 4 Wales").

It's been on air for 35 years, making it - according to Wikipedia - the fourth TV channel to reach the airwaves in the UK. It's only broadcast in Wales, but it's available digitally in all parts of the UK - not sure if they use a rights management system for the rest of the world. Give it a try at http://www.s4c.cymru/en/

Edit - judging by the language selector on that website, the true name of the language is 'Cymraeg'. They should know.

In Wales, S4C is available on Freeview 4, Sky 104, Virgin TV 166 and Freesat 104.
In England, Scotland and Northern Ireland, S4C is available on Sky 134, Freesat 120 and Virgin TV 166.
S4C are available online and on demand at s4c.cymru, BBC iPlayer, YouView, tvcatchup.com, TVPlayer.com and other platforms, throughout the UK, and can be accessed through the S4C App for Apple and Android devices.

Sigh...
Most of the S4C content is available to all, even non UK citizens abroad, whatever platform.
And English and Welsh subtitles available:)
And I now have learned what a bus is called in Wales:)
